CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.
The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.
And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

Both rear driver and passenger brakes are simultaneously wearing down within 2 weeks of standard use. Outer pad wears twice as fast as inner for both calipers. Pads and rotors changed twice. Calipers tested without issue. Pad wear is severely uneven. Others online have noted faulty ABS modules from Ford. Spongy brake pedal. Occasionally brakes get stuck on rear. Front brakes operate without issue or abnormalities. Issues began after ABS light flashed while driving.
I purchased this 2011 Fusion sel 6 months ago, the carfax report listed everything as being checked out but no report about epas as having recall issues, no problems until last week when the outside temperature reached the 90's, when exiting the freeway and coming to a stop the steering and brakes started loud growling noise at low speeds, continued throughout city street driving as well with it remaining constant until the temp cooled off overnight as it didn't have problems when temp was back down in the 60's but has repeated the growling noise again several times once the temp's return in hot weather. Went to the Ford dealer and said the recall 15S18 has been closed and that my VIN never was part of the recall notice, very frustrating that the 393,623 units effected that listed 2011-12 Fusion's never included all vehicles as viewing all the complaints numerous other vehicles that wasn't included in the recall are having the same issues as those that were. Received recall notice for the takata airbag possibly available in the 3 qtr and Ford is allowing owners a rental unit up to $30 a day until the takata airbag parts are available for replacement.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but lost pressure and traveled to the floorboard. The contact stated that the failure recurred numerous times. The contact had to drive with the emergency brake engaged. The vehicle was taken to inver grove Ford Lincoln (4725 S robert trail, inver grove heights, mn 55077, (800) 730-1765) where it was diagnosed that the ABS control module was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.
I have very little braking power. There is no possible way to lock my brakes up in case of an emergency. The brake pedal sinks all the way to the floor. Yes it slows the car and yes it stops the car but if someone makes a sudden stop in front of me my car will be in a accident. I was gonna replace calipers but a mechanic said they weren't bad they were wearing normal. The brake pads are less then a year old and the rotors were replaced the same time. I have almost been in a few accidents because of this issue luckily in Iowa we have big shoulders that gave me plenty of room to swerve to the shoulder and avoid an accident. These incidents all happened on highways as I was driving to work and the speed limit is 65 which with brakes that barely work I'm scared to even get to that speed. Normally I drive my other vehicle because of this problem that I have with the brakes. So I spend alot more money on fuel then I should considering I bought this car for the good gas mileage.
While driving approximately 30 mph and slowing down for a stop, vehicle without any prior warning started beeping and several dash alerts including check brake system, brake and ABS and immediately lost full braking power, as if the car had stalled and lost power brakes. Brakes had to be pushed to the floor and the vehicle still was hard to stop. I fear if I had being going any speed, I could not have stopped.

Lately when I'm driving and have to come to a stop at a light and have to sit there for awhile my brakes will slowly go to the floor and sometimes I have I will have to pump the brakes because my car will start to inch forward to get it to stop again. I checked the fluid levels and bled the system and it still does it.
One morning on the way to work as I applied the brakes approaching a stop light, my brake pedal suddenly went all the way to the floor. The brakes did not stop the car but since the road was on an incline I was able to slowly roll to a stop partially into the intersection. I drove very slow to work, keeping several car lengths distance because even after pumping the brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floor. The following day the brakes were better but still very spongy. Drove the car for a few weeks before I could get it to the mechanic. Some days I only had to press the brake halfway and others I had to press the brake all the way to the floor. The car has been at the mechanic for three weeks now. Changed master cylinder twice, now looking at an ABS module or hydraulics assembly. The brakes have always been spongy and had to be pressed at least halfway in order to stop. This is my second (and will be the last) Ford Fusion with brake issues. The first car was totaled when the ABS failed to work causing me to run into the back of another vehicle. The brakes were always spongy on the first car as well. Another note to add: When it rains the brakes are very unpredictable. One stop can be highly sensitive and the next barely any brakes at all.
While driving, brake caliper will freeze up and grind on brake pads and rotors, and produce smoke. New brakes and pads were put on 5 months ago, as well as rotors turned. The left rear caliper completely froze. Had caliper replaced several week ago and the same side froze again. This seems to be a rising issue with this make and model and should be investigated.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving 30 mph and depressing the brake pedal all the way to the floorboard, a loud noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,300.
The stearing wheel gets tight where's as though I cant move it than it reads stearing power assist fault I almost got into an accident with my children in the car when the stearing wheal locked on me also sometines it feel as if the car is not stopping when I push the breaks it keeps going even when I put brand new brakes on it I almost ran into the back of someones car on the road these a hazardous for my child
Had brakes serviced, new pads, rotors, etc. A few months later noticed brake pressure lost at times, pedal went to floor. Took back in to shop, components stated as ok. Problem persists. Noticed that it happens after a stop where ABS is activated, then next brake activation has low pedal. Also seems to happen in reverse. Not safe, car stop time increases without warning. This is the ABS hydraulic module problem that is already under investigation for at least 2007-2009. My 2011 has the same problem. Car is at Ford dealer now.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. When the brake pedal was depressed, the brake felt soft and the pedal traveled to the floor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
The ABS system on my Ford Fusion hybrid completely failed as I was about to get onto the 4 1/2 mile long chesapeake bay bridge. There was no advance warning that this was to happen. I managed to turn the car around and drive it to the dealer who had the car for 3 days and ultimately had to replace the entire ABS module at a cost to me of $2764. Thankfully, when this happened I did not have to apply my brakes in an emergency situation because the only braking that I could effect at that point was to depress the brake pedal all the way to the floor and bring the car gradually to a stop. This should never have happened on a vehicle with only 94,000 that is regularly serviced including a tune up at the same dealer exactly one month previously.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 20 mph and attempting to stop, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when depressed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle home. The following day, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who flushed and replaced the brake fluid. The vehicle was not diagnosed by the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,800.
The ABS control unit failed and almost made me crash in the highway on N 680 exit treat blvd, and I spent $1500 just to find a solution. This is a recall that needs to be addressed.
While driving the car, I hit a bump in the road at the same time as applying the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor and was hard to stop the vehicle. I had to pump the brakes to get the pedal to come up, I believe this condition is caused by a faulty brake antilock valve as seen in you tube videos. In the videos the mechanic blamed the fault on sticking valves contained inside the valve. I believe this fault rests with the manufacturer and should be replaced at their cost because of the safety issues, the valve eventually reset itself, but returns to bypass the brake pressure when the brakes are applied on a bump. I have cautioned my wife to not hit the brakes on a bumpy road, I wish to have this vehicle recalled as soon as possible. We have been the only owners of this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the brake pedal needed to be applied with an excessive force in order to safely stop the vehicle while being operated at lower speeds. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000. Updated 02/21/17
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and hit the floor when depressed. The vehicle was taken to be repaired at the dealer but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 190,000. The VIN was not available.
On several different occasions my brake pedal has gone to the floor. Mostly when I am stopped in traffic. Twice putting my car in reverse the car surged and brake pedal went to floor
