CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

The transmission shifts hard/jerks between 2nd and 3rd gear frequently. It also shifts hard/jerks when lowering speed in heavy traffic situations.

It has happened before to my wife on two other occasions. So I took the car out and drove it around and was coming back home and after turning onto our rode and got up to 45 mph the wrench light and the check engine light came on and loss all power. Step on the gas pedal and there was nothing. Rolled over to the shoulder and put in park and waited for a couple of minutes and restarted it. Went about another 300 yards and it did it again. Did some research on the internet and Ford has been having this problem with the Fusion and there other cars like the escape. They all came down to the throttle body being bad and had to be replaced. But my question is if they have been having this problem for awhile why hasn't Ford or someone put a recall on these throttle body's. this can cause a serious accident if a person is going down the highway and this occurs the person could be possibly rear ended.

I turned right and accelerated to 10 miles. The wrench light came on and the car stalled and I could no longer accelerate. I put the car in manual and was only able to go 2 mph I found a safe place to pull over and shut off the car. I turned it bck on and I was able to accelerate and ha no further issues. How the car has done it 3 times since. This is extremely dangerous if in high traffic areas.

While driving ~55mph in left lane of a 3-lane interstate at morning rush hour, the engine lost power, continued running at ~1000rpm, but would not accelerate. The check engine and wrench lights were on. The car was nearly hit by numerous vehicles as I coasted to the emergency lane on the right side of the expressway. The engine was shut off, then restarted, and it was ok for several miles. The same scenario was repeated twice while driving to a nearby dealer. The throttle body was replaced at a cost of $650 since it was out of warranty. Service personnel told me that they had seen several of these same problems on Fusion. This one dealer is most likely representative of others, so there must be a very large number of these problems occurring in nearly new vehicles. Why hasn't Ford, where quality used to be job one, issued a recall? this car has been otherwise flawless up to this point.

Nothing actually happened yet. This morning on my way to work, my vehicle seemed like it was ready to accelerate without me pressing the gas. I was at a stoplight, then I noticed my vehicle was trying to take off on it's own. It was giving slight jerks to go forward. First time I experienced this. I will be contacting Ford about this issue today, although they will tell me "we can't do anything until a light comes on."

When pulling into traffic with my vehicle the transmission slips between second and third gear the car slows and hesitates allowing traffic to come up abruptly from behind. There is no warning no stop lights on so traffic is unaware that the vehicle is slowing.

The vehicle when driven either does not shift correctly out of gear, doesn't maintain the right gear, and has a violet upshift and downshift reaction when increasing or decreasing speed.it has been at Ford service garage for over a month, and they cannot find the problem, or a solution. Ford engineers have came down and looked at the car. They also cannot find a solution to fix the problems with the car. They have replaced numerous parts in the transmission, and moved on to replacing spark plugs and egr valve in the engine.

  • 2,900 miles
Transmission originally blew up @ 2,900 miles. Transmission now (10,000 miles) looses forward momentum under acceleration (30 mph) and then has violent shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. Defect presents significant issue presenting an opportunity for the vehicle to either be rearended with loss of forward momentum or for the driver lose control at violent upshift. Dealership has attempted repair 3 times. Dealership has now installed data recorded and returned vehicle with instruction to owner to record diagnostic information when the defect recurs. Symptoms have been replicated / confirmed by multiple Ford representatives on multiple occasions. No root cause identified, no permanent corrective action implemented.

Today when turning into a parking space with my right foot lightly on the brake, my car suddenly accelerated. I quickly turned the wheel and braked to avoid hitting a cement post. Two weeks ago when going up a hill without my cruise control on, the car would not accelerate when I was pushing on the gas pedal. I released the pedal and the car lurched forward so fast I had to brake.

Transmission slams into third gear first time you drive it each day. Does not matter if it is morning, afternoon or night. This has been an issue from the first day I bought the car. I took it back to the dealership I bought it and was told to drive it... it would work it's way out. I have had it in 6 times since... last time they told me there was nothing they could do until Ford came out with a new fix. Ford has already had two updates that do not work. I have filed a lemon law with Ford... and have the BBB information to file out as well. I was supposed to hear back today, but did not... I called 3X's left a message twice.

On September 15, 2011 I was driving my 5 month old 2011 Ford Fusion hybrid with 5700 miles on it when a brake warning light came on and a warning tone sounded in my vehicle. I pulled over and stopped the vehicle. I called walker Ford in clearwater and they said it probably was only a defective rear brake light and bring it in when you have time. I restarted my vehicle and the warning light and tone were gone. I continued driving home and when I was almost home, the brake warning light came on again and so did the warning tone. But this time I noticed my estimated miles per gallon on the onboard computer system was going up and down and the vehicle no longer went into the electric hybrid mode. I called walker Ford and told them I was going to bring the vehicle in on the morning of September 16th. I brought it in and all day long they troubleshoot it and walker Ford could not figure out what was wrong with it. They put a call into the Ford technician hotline to find out what was wrong with the vehicle. At the end of the day they did not hear back from the hotline and I needed a vehicle to get home. Walker Ford wanted to give my vehicle back to me to drive home and use over the weekend. I refused saying that the manual said to bring the vehicle in for service for the brake warning light and the electric/hybrid system not working. Nothing in the manual said to continue driving the vehicle. So walker Ford finally gave me a loaner to drive. Monday September 19th they got an answer from the hotline and it said a vacuum hose/assembly was bad and they put one on order. The next day the part was not delivered but a notice that the part was not available but back ordered and it would become available sometime around October 14th. I contacted Ford customer service and made a complaint case # [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I was traveling about 35 to 40mph when the car starting acting up. Anytime I had to slow down and then speed up the RPM would not shift, when it did shift it would jerk the car forward. I also have been having an issue where I would step on the gas and it would act as if it was in neutral. This continues to happen and I fear that one of these times I will be in an accident with my kids in the car. These are all transmission issues, I have brought it in twice now first time they did the tsb which was to reset the PCM and my ac wasn't and still is not working. Resetting the PCM did not work so now back in the shop it sits. This car is only 4 months old and already has safety issues being the transmission. There needs to be a recall before there are deaths.
