CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving 70 mph, the power steering became inoperable. The contact managed to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. The manufacturer stated that the previous owner had the vehicle repaired per an unknown recall. There were no current recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to davis Ford sales Inc. (904 w main St, fulton, ms 38843, (662) 862-3711) where it was determined that the vehicle exceeded the warranty mileage limit; therefore, the repair would cost $1,300. Power steering to this car went on me as I was driving home from work. This is very dangerous. I see I am not the only one that is having issues with this, there needs to be a recall done on this as I am not paying 1800 on this part when it isn't just my car.

While driving on the street making a slight turn my Ford Fusion 2011 experienced full electronic power steering failure. Extremely dangerous. I had this same issue 4 years ago in Dec. 2015 (46,000 odometer) with the electronic steering unit (pscm) and had it replaced and reprogrammed at the Ford dealership. This is a very expensive $1800 part to have to replace a second time (74,000 odometer). Contacted the Ford service line and was told there was nothing they could do.

The contact's father owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that his father received a recall notice in July of 2015 for NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering). The contact's father took the vehicle to all american Ford (3306 bridge ave, point pleasant, NJ 08742, 732-451-3582) to be diagnosed, but no failure was found. The dealer updated the electronic system and returned the vehicle to the contact's father. Recently, when the vehicle was started, the power steering fault warning indicator illuminated and the contact's father had difficulty steering the vehicle. For some time, the contact's father was able to restart the vehicle and it resumed normal operation. The contact stated that the failure had become more persistent. The contact's father returned to the dealer and was informed that he was no longer eligible for a recall repair. The contact's father was given a quote of $2,200 to replace the power steering rack and paid a $125 diagnostic fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was unaware if the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,120.

While driving on the interstate, the steering locked up, I put on my hazard lights and eased my way to the shoulder not causing an accident. It happened again as I was coming home I turned onto my street and before I could line the steering wheel back to it's proper position it locked up again. Knowing that it has an electronic pump I automatically checked the fuse. There was nothing wrong. I had it towed to have it put on a machine and I was told it was a faulty pump and I was not the first person they had talked to about this. So I'm making this contact because this is not some wearing out of a part over time, this is a part that 'needed to be recalled and/or should have been recalled before it becomes a very serious incident. I file this complaint not only for myself but for all the other vehicles out there that may have this same malfunction. Not only those with vehicles but the pedestrians young and old who are put in harms way. As a suggestion to the Ford Motor Company before their Focus is just how many vehicles we can put out and in return the billions of dollars being made at the full subjection of innocent hard working people. It's not right and something needs to be done very soon. To this day I have to leave a vehicle parked that is being paid and insured which is not fair to me and I ask that I'm contacted soon to resolve this most serious matter.

Power steering assist fault occurred intermittently. Took to to dealer to have an older recall performed. Several days later, power steering failed completely shortly after starting while in a parking lot. I almost hit another parked car when I suddenly could not turn. Apparently this is a known issue, I don't understand why Ford is permitted to have this persist. This is a serious safety issue! there could have been a person walking there!!!!

PURCHASED MY CAR FROM FORD IN APRIL 2015, HAVE HAD 0 ISSUES WITH IT, UNTIL THURSDAY EVENING SEPT 5, 2019. ON THE WAY TO WORK, EVERYTHING WAS FINE. LEAVING WORK, EVERYTHING WAS FINE... UNTIL I GOT ON A 55MPH HIGHWAY, IN TRAFFIC, IN HEAVY RAIN (DUE TO HURRICANE DORIAN ENTERING OUR AREA). OUT OF NOWHERE, MY POWER STEERING WARNING AND ADVANCE TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON AND I LOST COMPLETE STEERING FUNCTION IN MY VEHICLE. I AM ALMOST 5 MONTHS PREGNANT AND ALMOST WRECKED IN 2 LANES FULL OF TRAFFIC OF OTHER PEOPLE HEADING HOME FROM WORK IN SUCH WEATHER! UPON RESEARCH, 400,000+ FORD FUSION 2011'S HAVE BEEN RECALLED OVER THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE - YET IT SEEMS THAT NO ONE'S VIN #S MATCH WITH THE RECALLED VEHICLES. YET AGAIN, OVER 2000+ RECENT COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA WEBSITE AS WELL! THIS IS RIDICULOUS - ALMOST 2 YEARS LEFT TO PAY ON MY LOAN AND MY VEHICLE DOESN'T MATCH THE VIN FOR THE RECALL - WHEN OBVIOUSLY, YES IT [XXX] WELL DOES! I HAD TO CALL FOR HELP BECAUSE I'M TOO PREGNANT TO FORCEFULLY MANHANDLE THE WHEEL THAT BARELY TURNS 2 INCHES TO EITHER SIDE, TO TRY AND STEER A VEHICLE WITH NO POWER STEERING! LUCKILY WE HAD FAMILY IN FROM OUT OF TOWN WHO EVACUATED FROM THE BEACH THAT COULD HELP US GET THE CAR HOME. WOULD FORD BE PAYING FOR MY ACCIDENT AND INJURIES TO POTENTIALLY 2 BECAUSE, AGAIN I'M PREGNANT - AND THEN ANYONE ELSE I COULD HAVE HIT ON MY EXIT! THIS IS RELATED TO AN OBVIOUS ONGOING ELECTRONIC FAILURE! THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED & FIXED NOW! INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

My car was 100% fine when I drove to work and 3 hours later when I was driving for lunch there was a message that there was a power steering assist fault. Thankfully I was not in a busy area because I could barely crank my wheel to turn. There is a recall for 2011 Ford Fusion but my VIN was not included. Yet with no indicators my power steering does not work.
