CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.

The Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) is a mess. It fails at an alarming rate. Don’t believe us? Take a look at NHTSA’s data on the subject.

And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

The car suddenly accelerated 3 times since it was purchased new in 2011. The 1st time I was parking and the car suddenly accelerated and hit a cement wall. The second time I was also entering a parking spot and the car suddenly accelerated and crashed into a tree. I took it to my dealer and they were unable to replicate the problem. this was in 2015. On 9/13/2022 I was about to make a right turn and suddenly the car accelerated at high speed and crossed over the road onto the golf course before I was able to slow it down. I immediately parked the car and haven't driven it since. I feel that it is unsafe to drive especially since the dealer was unable to identify the problem.

The contact's mother owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that since 2015, the vehicle would serge forward independently while depressing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The owner had taken the vehicle to blackwell Ford Inc. (41001 Plymouth rd, Plymouth, mi 48170) where the mechanic replaced the throttle body. Since the repair was performed, the contact and her mother had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer on several occasions for the same failure. Recently, while her mother was attempting to park the vehicle, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated over a parking barrier into oncoming traffic. Her mother was pumping the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to immediately stop. The driver avoided crashing into a tree but clipped a stop sign before the vehicle came to a complete stop. No injuries were reported. A police report was not filed. The contact's mother restarted the vehicle and drove home with assistance from a family member. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

I went to stivers Ford about the air bag be to the end of January and the beginning of February the mechanic took my recall information said they would call me as soon as the new bags got in never heard from them I called every month only to be told nothing came in yet so I called Ford customers service they had me on hold the mechanic in montgomery stated that there was no record of me ever being there. Customer service left me on the phone with the mechanic to make an appointment she hung up the phone I gave the mechanic my first and last name then he repeated back to me my first and last name with my address keep in mind he had all of my information in the system the whole time. So I made an appointment for Friday May 31 2019. There is a faulty tire light on that won't go away even when I had the tire checked the car stopped in the middle of the intersection during the green light in heavy traffic the 🔧 light came on with the check engine light and the flashing faulty tire light. I put the car in park and turned off the engine then restarted the car and drove home I was very afraid because the cars behind me were moving pretty fast I was blessed to not be hit from behind. Next day drove the car to a repair shop. Every thing was working fine they ran a diagnosis showing the throttle was stuck and would not reset so it is stuck.

When I was driving on the paved road about 15 miles per hour I let off the accelerator while engaging a slight curve in the road and the car all of a sudden sped up out of control. The brakes had no effect on stopping the car. So I steered away from traffic ahead and went into an open field. The car got up to around 50 mph, and 60 yards out I hit a 10 foot wide trench by 2 foot deep. The front end hit the other side and the airbag went off. The brakes finally stopped the car about 30 yards from the trench. The decorative front end and the back end was tore off along with miscellaneous brackets. The radiator was pushed up into the hood with no leaks.

Was accelerating in my vehicle when the car hesitated and then just shut off in the middle of the road showing only an orange wrench light on the dash. Thankfully I was driving in town and actually to the dealership to get my airbag recall fixed when this happened and nobody other than my boyfriend was behind me. I turned the key into the off position and turned it back on and the dash (wrench) light indicator went off. I could have seriously injured myself or another vehicle due to what seems to be be a system failure! I refused to take my car home from the dealership until they checked into it. They acted as if it was no big deal because the (wrench) light on the dash went off but I'm very concerned it's a safety issue and bad accidents can be a result of this.

My car takes about 2 mins to start. The gas acceleration goes from normal to slow when I'm driving. I go into reverse and my car stalls and jerks really hard. When I'm at a stoplight or a stop sign my car will act like it's losing power and the whole car shakes. The lights on the dash come on then disappear days later with new lights on such as check engine doors open ect. There are times I will be driving and my car will slow down on its own like I hit my breaks. When I was backing up going in reverse the car jerked and I hit someone however it was in a parking lot. There was no damage to the other vehicle. When I put the car back in drive after I had it in reverse from backing up I backed up again there has to be something wrong within the car itself. I'm worried about my safety as well as others. The malfunctioning of the car has been going on since about a month after I got it and it's been almost 2 months since it's beenin my possession.

Driving my family home, my dashboard displayed a message to "service power steering soon" steering wasn't an immediate problem...however, a few hours later, I attempted to drive the vehicle to a mechanic and when I turned the wheel the steering was very hard to do, very stiff. There was also a message that came on the dashboard that said to "service power steering now". I contacted a mechanic & they informed that I could possibly reset the power steering, by just turning the car on and off a few times. However, this method did not work. Computer is having trouble uploading the video

The vehicle was in motion on I 85 in Alabama traveling approximately 70miles per hour.I noticed the vehicle started jerking, the speedometer started fluctuating, until I lost speed control.the wrench light was on. My vehicle had 70,000 miles;driven approximately 20 miles a day. I made the decision to turn around and go home driving in the right lane with no speedometer or a speedometer that would start fluctuating while my car was jerking. I took the vehicle to my local Ford dealer.the diagnostic codes were 070/071/072.they told me no warranty and it would be $1,000 to fix the transmission speed sensor. Unfortunately I did not have $1000 to fix the problem. My car operated ok until a few days when it started jerking, speedometer fluctuated until it went to reading 0 mph. At this time I was on I 20 in atlanta. This time I was afraid of being rear ended when I was stopped at a traffic light due to not picking up enough speed. I feel this is a serious safety issue and Ford should be required to replace transmission speed sensors. Case in point concerning Ford dealer quoting $1000-I found someone to repair for under $100. I would have been able to fix my car the previous year. Dealer said they would have to spend 4 plus hours labor due to where the transmission speed sensor is located. Person fixing my car said the transmission speed sensor is external easily accessible. I'm very disappointed in Ford and the dealer in this very scary issue.

The throttle stuck (2nd time, both times similar) recent experience:03/20/2018: Location: Entrance ramp pa turnpike at somerset exit. The turnpike traffic was moving extremely slowly due to weather\accident (estimate 15 25 mph). I had purposely hung way back (100 - 150 ft) of car ahead of me as driver did not seem experienced or confident. After thinking that the vehicle in front was going to make its merge, I started accelerating up to the then turnpike traffic speed. The car in front though did not merge but stopped instead. I then needed to slow down or stop. When attempting to slow down, my car did not want to slow down, throttle seemed stuck. I then started pressing the brake pedal with both feet as hard as I could. Though my car did stop before hitting the vehicle in front, it was an extremely tense experience. Previously, a couple years ago, I had a similar experience. I did not report at that time. In that experience, I was approaching an intersection in the city of erie. My approach was on a slight uphill. The light changed from green to red and I went to stop. Again, it seemed as though the throttle stuck. As it was on an uphill I was expecting to use little or no brake. My car though kept at speed. Again, I jumped on the brake pedal with both feet as hard as I could. In this case, I did lightly strike the back of a vehicle that stopped ahead of me at the traffic signal. The car I hit did not receive any damage. My car though had a grill piece puncture the air conditioner item that holds its liquid.

Throttle body- our 2012 Ford Fusion will intermittently stall, which has become a hazard driving, especially on the highway. The wrench light will come on, but once turning the car back on, the light will go off. After a dozen or more times, the check engine light finally came on and we were able to bring it to our mechanic. He pulled the code P2111 (throttle body). He cleaned out the throttle because that what he thought would fix it and cleared the code. The problem happened again and we then researched online and found that this is a major issue with Ford owners. However, Ford has claimed that this is not a hazard so has not declared a recall, but has extended a warranty for the part. Unfortunately, since our code was cleared our Ford dealership will not fix this under warranty even after giving them the code that popped up. They have had the car for days and have not experienced it themselves so they will not fix it. The only options we now have are #1 paying out of pocket or #2 driving the car hoping that the check engine comes back on which Ford has suggested. Needless to say this is extremely dangerous and we are very disappointed that the only option they have for us is to send us away to have it stall again so they can get their code when knowing there are what looks like hundreds of complaints online. Also, since the check engine light only came on once, we will probably have to experience a dozen more stalls for it to come on again. We are at a loss.
