CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.

The Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) is a mess. It fails at an alarming rate. Don’t believe us? Take a look at NHTSA’s data on the subject.

And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

Well, looks like the famous problem as mentioned all over the 2012 Fusion page here has affected us, too. We arrived at our destination on Friday night and right as we were approaching, the service advancetrac and steering light came on the dash. Next time we turned the vehicle on, it said SERVICE STEERING NOW and the power steering was completely gone. We tried pushing our luck to see if we could get it home, hoping it might become easier to steer once it got moving - but absolutely not, the wheel started violently jerking and ultimately we pulled over on the side of the road and had to wait over 2 hours for a tow. And of course, Ford won't do anything for me as expected. Worst car company in the world, and I will forever be telling ANYONE who will listen to me: friends don't let friends buy Ford. Absolute piece of junk garbage tier company.

1st time this happened they said no it was not on a recall or warranty we had to pay the full amount. 2nd time we had to pay the full amount and told they do not honor a recall when the warranty is out but listed that the recall was part of the problem, not only did they not fix the problem they never reset the error code so it still pops up constantly. Safety Recall 15S18. We were never notified that there was recall or we would have had it fixed, right now we have spent over $3000 to fix it and all they do is adjust the lining, or replace the arms. Not happy

About a year I had a power assist fault light that went off, how to get complete power steering replace. Fast forward to about a week ago, I'm dealing with an advancedtrac light and check power steering now light on the dash. This past week the car has locked up on me while driving!!! And the Ford dealership has said they never seen a check advancedtrac light illuminated. Unbelievable! So they want to charge me all this money to try different things in hope to find a solution!

My son was driving home on the freeway when his power steering went out. Not sure why this hasn't been recalled again, I guess someone will have to die or be really hurt before they do it. We checked under the hood and the piece is missing that connects to the engine. The part alone is $750, not even sure if it'll be worth the money to fix.

Update from May 17, 2019: Update: The recall was completed Aug of 2017, and it went out AGAIN!!!

I got a message on my dash that said, " Service Power Steering Now- advance trac." this occurred has I was on my way home from Creve Coeur MO to Ofallon MO, so the car was in motion. My steering wheel stiffened very tightly; I was not able to turn very well. This is all the information I have as I am still investigating the problem.

This really pisses me off, I'm unable to drive without the power steering. Unsure what the cost will be to fix everyone giving different figures.

Lost power steering at 65 MPH - very scary. The traction control light came on and the message center also had the message" service power steering now" as well as Service Advancetrac"

Fusion 2.5L

Power steering quit while driving, giving the "Service Power Steering Now" and the Advancetrac messages on the dash. I brought it to the dealer, as I was aware of a recall for power steering loss. However, the dealer said this is not the issue, but is instead TSB 11-11-3 http://revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=176700 , and as the car has 31,054 miles but is more than 36 months old, it is not covered by either the recall or warranty. Dealer suggested I call Ford Customer Care to see what they can do for me. The car is supposed to be fixed today; I haven't heard what they will offer yet. I cannot believe TSB 11-11-3 is not part of a safety recall.

Update from Jul 29, 2016: The dealer repaired the vehicle, and due to a number of factors (low mileage, Certified Pre-Owned, just out of warranty for that, loyal customer, etc.,etc.) Ford Customer Care picked up all but a small portion of the cost. I am a satisfied customer.

Being a senior I need a car I can depend on. I am at work at 6:00 in the morning. I got in my car to start it and the steering signal flashed steering fault. The steering wheel was locked down. I am afraid to drive the car now. I can not make payments and repairs at the same time. Thank you.

DEALER IS SAYING I NEED NEW TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT, AND THAT THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM.

HOWEVER, I SEE WHERE THERE ARE OVER 600 OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE.
