The 1999-2003 Ford Taurus has a huge problem with coil springs breaking, which can puncture or even shred tires while driving.
The US government spent THREE YEARS (2008-2011) investigating the 2002-2003 Taurus coil springs. Although Taurus/Sable from earlier years were recalled, ultimately the NHTSA did not force a recall. They determined that because there had been no deaths & very few bad crashes & injuries, the broken coil springs defect was no big deal & not a safety defect. Tell that to all the owners who had close calls...

On 22 Sep 10 my wife hit a parked truck in a 2002 Ford Taurus. Her car hit the right front at about 35 mph and the airbag didn't deploy. She suffered a non-displaced fracture of the sternum as a result of the accident. The car apparently went under the truck's bumper. The right headlight, hood, windshield and right front side were damaged. The car was totaled as a result of the accident.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. While driving between 45-50 mph, the contact rear ended another vehicle. The front driver side air bag failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact has pictures. The current and failure mileages were 63,237. Updated 04-02-08
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. While driving 54 mph, the contact was involved in a crash in which both vehicles involved were destroyed. The contacts air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries. The current and failure mileages were 85,000. Oklahoma traffic collision report provided. Rear ended at a stop light and pushed into the car in front of me. Both front seats, fully reclined, driver seat broke, no airbags at all deployed. Resulted in herniated discs for both driver and front seat (only) passenger.
With the front part of the car, impacted the front lateral part of the other car and the air bags did not deploy. The car was total loss. The driver and the passenger received bodily injuries.
While driving 35 mph the consumer was involved in a head on collision. The driver side air bag did not deploy, however the passenger side air bag did. The driver sustained major neck and eye injuries. The cause has yet to be determined. Please provide additional information.

The vehicle was involved in a collision in February of 2001. While stopped another vehicle hit the front driver side and the front air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was taken to a collision repair shop which stated the front air bags should have deployed.
My daughter was on a rural highway, hwy 83 near alma, Nebraska. Three head of cattle was standing in the middle of the roadway and she was unable to avoid impact. She was traveling at a normal rate of speed, using a lap and shoulder belt and slammed on the brakes striking one of the cattle, causing it to shear the top of the hood, shatter the windshield, and shear the roof of the car. The driver airbag did not deploy and she had neck injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. When law enforcement approached the accident, they were convinced they were working a fatality due to the condition of the vehicle. We were told that her neck injuries might have not been as severe if the airbag had deployed. It was a rental vehicle from enterprise car rental due to the fact that her company car was being repaired from a hailstorm two-three months before. Problems with the drivers air bag. Also stated that the consumer was driven at 40 mph and had a front collision where her air bag did not deploy was contacted and has stated that since no one was hurt there was nothing they can do.
The vehicle was involved in an accident and the driver's air bag failed to deploy. Also the seat belt failed to properly restrain consumer, which caused injuries.
My daughter was pulling into a parking space, she applied the brakes, the car lunged ahead and hit the building. The passenger air bag deployed and not the drivers air bag. She had her seat belt on and hit the steering wheel. I talked to Ford and they siad to go through my insurance company.
While driving, consumer tried to avoid hitting another motorist who had abruptly hit the brakes, consumer then swerved hitting a guardrail, the front tire exploded, and the vehicle spun around 6 times before coming to a stop, in the process of the accident the airbags failed to deploy, consumer suffered minor injuries.
