I purchased this vehicle from my late Aunt. I purchased from her when it was under 30000 miles which meant under the warranty. I have since had to get multiple tire changes and alignments when the latest mechanic told me there is nothing wrong with the alignment. He looked it up online and found out that there was a "service bulletin" saying that some Civics had this problem and Honda was working with the customers to help fix it and help pay for some of the tire cost. I brought this to the attention of our local Honda dealer and he said he could do nothing for me. Would not even be able to help me in the direction of who to talk to. I searched and found a number for Honda. I talked to Honda and they told me it is necessary to have my local dealer do a diagnostics on it to confirm this problem. The local dealer told me it would be free of charge and when I came to pick it up he told me there was a fee of $50 for work done. We argued back and forth as to him saying that or not ending in me still owing the bill til finally the manager decided to wave it. They did find out that the car had the original rear upper control arms and needs the new ones. Honda finally called me back today to let me know that they will NOT be helping me in the cost of fixing this problem. They stated that since the car is not under warranty anymore, I am not the original owner, and I don't get my car serviced at the local dealer they would not be willing to help. Taking into full consideration that the fact is this problem has been there since the car was made. That did not matter to Honda. They said that they can't make every customer happy. When you have a problem with the car since it was made I don't care how old the car is, you fix it. It is not up to debate that I did something to this car to make it this way. Not to mention to make me get another diagnostic test after I already got one, just to come back and tell me they don't want to help out. Was that there way of trying to get a little more money out of me before they screw me? If they do not end up fixing this problem I will never but Honda again and will yell to the ends of the earth of my problem with Honda in hopes that other people never but a Honda vehicle again. I am a father of three, one being an infant, and this expense is going to be a hard one to afford.

I go through rear tires like crazy (passenger side more)! My car makes noise and vibrates when I drive. It always pulls to the left, and now this has messed up one of my brakes, wore out the driver side pad way before the passenger side one and now I think the caliper made be broken. In the winter the car likes to spin out ALL the time. This car is totally unsafe!!!

72,000 miles now! and on my 4th set of tires... including O.E. set. I should only be on my second set of tires at this mileage...... barely getting 24,000 from a set of tires that should normally go 50,000 miles. ALL sets had PREMATURE / IRREGULAR wear due to bad alignment issues attributed to stock HONDA parts and NOT having Adjustments possible. HONDA SHOULD RECALL AND FIX this issue..... CAUSES SO MUCH TIRE WEAR AND ADDITIONAL CUSTOMER COST.....

From all the complaints I found on-line and the TSB 08-001 that Honda issued on 2/8/08, this is clearly a manufacturing defect and Honda should cover the cost of the fix. If anyone knows where to signup for the class action lawsuit, please let me know.

My Dad bought 2007 Honda Civic for me in 2008. I loved the car but after driving around 12,000 miles my car would make a roaring sound , and vibration in rear especially when driving on interstate. My Dad would inspect my tires and see they worn on the inside so he got me new tires. I have gone through at least 6 sets of tires and had alignments. And the bad thing My Dad would blame me saying I was rough on my tires or my be hitting every pot hole in Richmond Va. So here it is August 21, 2012 when I decided to check internet to see if their was any recalls on my car that could be causing this problem. I found were they recalled my car due to rear bearings. I did not receive any information on recall. I called the Honda of American and gave them my vin number and they said I should have registered when I bought car. I told he we bought from a on a dealer so why didnt they register my information. She give me permission to take car into Colonial Honda. I called and took car in on 8/22/2012. The Technician did a Honda Multi Point Vehicle Inspection Checklist. The Tech said the wheel bearings or sensor and o-rings were ok did no need to replace. But they did tell me and wrote on my invoice that steel is hanging out of tires and needed alignment and they were not safe. I told them my Dad had 4 new tires for me which he had put onmy car the same day. Now its back to the internet when I find where HONDA has a TSB 08-001 saying uneven or rapid tire wear, and vibration was due to rear upper control arms being to short. Honda dealerships where suppose to install a rear upper control arm kit, replace the flange bolts and the worn tires and a 4 wheel alignment. So after finding this out I called the service Advisor. He said that was not a recall and my warranty was expired due to my mileage 97,000 which I know is a lot of miles but if you don't know about TSB how would you know what was causing the problem. He told me to call Honda of America and I did. They told me my warranty would not cover it. She asked me if I told the Tech about problem and I did tell them my car was making a loud noise so I thought it was due to rear bearings..I am not a mechanic I am a Rn but why would they not have seen the control arms when they were doing a Under Vehicle inspection. Honda Of America told me I would have to have a diagnostic test done on my car and yes I would have to pay for it. And no they would not refund my money if they found the control arms were causing the problem and my claim would be subject to claim review. I will get back to telling the world after it is over with.

After doing some internet research I have discovered that this car has an inherent design flaw with the upper rear control arms. They are too short causing uneven tire wear which can cause rear tire blowouts.

I have had this car since August of 2007. I purchased it brand new. Since then I have had to replace the rear tires every 6 months. I just read where this has been an issue. If Honda knew this was an issue why wasn't there a recall.

Went to Firestone to get tires rotated and aligned; 60K tires purchased on 7/2010. They advised me they could not rotate or align tires as my rear tires are "cupped" and I need two new tires; plus I need to replace front and back strut and shocks. Firestone person said as long as it is not bothering me do not need to fix; but my tires will wear out faster and cannot put new tires until struts and shocks are fixed. Firestone person said up to me no danger but tires will wear out quickly. This is my third set of tires and I started checking for prices for parts and came into this sight. I love this car, but I too had issues with the visors on both driver and passenger side two years ago that cost me over $300 to replace as Honda would not cover it and my car no longer under warranty. Now this with the rear arms....I can't afford to trade the car in and get a new car. I also can't afford to buy tires every two years either. I think HONDA needs to recall this asap.

Originally when the dealer said I needed new tires at 34,000 miles they said it was because the car is light and that amount of tire wear was normal.

I replaced the tires then. Now at 72,000 miles they are shot again. That is when I started looking online to see if anyone else had a complaint. I have seen many complaints

I hate to spend a lot of money on new tires only to have them ruined again, along with all the tire noise that begins as they start to wear out again.

This also concerns me from a safety standpoint.

This is a manufacturing defect that wouldn't be solved by changing the rear control arms. Rear control arms is just a temporary fix and will cause the problem again in some time. It is unfair that the customers like me have to pay thousands of dollars for a problem that is manufacturing defect. Honda should either provide a permanent fix for free or recall this vehicle..

bought new, original tires wore out at 28k, really noisy tires, thought they were just bad tires. Bought new set with lifetime rotation and balance, again tires noisy and ended up cupping and having to be replaced. Now on third set of tires which roar so bad I hate to drive car. Now I find out about the defective upper control arms, first I have heard about in five years of use, even had car into dealer for tire noise and problem was not addressed. After three years had to replace tires as two tires were wearing out from inside. The problem was not realized soon as I change the tires from summer to winter each year since the time I bought the car in 2007. Last year I was informed by the garage that my tires were wearing out from inside so when I had the tires rotated kept a watch on the wear. As for summer tires I use a “V” rated tire which uses much softer rubber the tire wear was much significant. So picked up a new set of tires last night and took the car in for alignment this morning to find out that rear wheel alignment had issues. The wheel alignment shop informed me about the issue and I told them to fix it as I did not want the new tires also to wear out. He then told me that he has seen this issue in a lot of civics and informed me that Honda did not inform their customers on this issue. I take my car in to the dealer ship every 6000 kms for the oil change where they perform a so called complete inspection. If this is a known issue for Honda Civics why Honda has not come forward and at least informed their customers and requested their dealerships to lookout and rectify the rear control arm to fix this known issue?

Rapid tire wear occurred on the inner portions of both rear tires. The problem was discovered after noticing much road noise and having the tires rotated. Two new tires were purchased and the rear upper control arms were replaced. The problem still exists to this day after consulting two different Honda garages they both confirmed that the rear control arms were installed correctly and are within spec. Both garages recommended replacing the tires again, but this is becoming very costly. The ride of the car over the last year has gotten significantly worse and now I'm noticing braking problems. The car hops in the back when applying the brakes at highway speeds. Honda didn't recognize the problem and has offered no compensation.

2007 Civic purchased as a "Certified" used vehicle in May 2009. A new set of tires were on the vehicle at that time - mileage was 23,000. Those tires had to be replaced at 60,000 due to uneven rear end tire wear. We are now told that this model has a problem with the OEM rear upper control arms and need to be replaced. The Dealership sold the vehicle without the "fixed". After complaining to the dealership, we have been advised that Honda is willing to pick up a portion of the mechanical cost, but expects the customer to fund 1/3 of the total repair. They are not willing to assist in paying for the premature tire wear.

Honda has not notified it's customers or are they willing to correct the problem unless the customer pushes back, and, even then they are only willing to share the cost . Obviously, there should be a recall on this model. For the record, this is the last Honda product purchased by this family.

I have a Honda Civic 2007 that I have bought tires for multiple times! I have had many theories attributed to the excessively quick wear and tear of my rear tires - not rotating, not balanced, wrong tire size, etc. Every mechanic I talked to had a different theory. Not until I saw this website did I see that evidently this a VERY common problem with the model of my car!! I have spent thousands trying to repair this problem to no avail. Tires I spent over $700 on wear out at 20,000 miles! Very frustrating!! Honda offers no help. Says that I didn't take care of my tires! Consider me in if a class action lawsuit ever comes around on this...

Had the control amrs replaced by dealer, along with new tires and alignment. New tires started same behavior with about 20,000 miles on them. Attributed it to cheap tires, lack of rotation. Purchased new Yokahamas Oct. 10, already badly worn on inside. I really want to know if others who have had this done have the same results (no improvement), or has it corrected the issue. If it does fix the problem, my dealer appears to have charged Honda for warranty work they didn't perform. Also would like to know how to determine if the 'correct' part is installed.
