I'm not even sure if it's the wheel bearings yet. About two months ago i got canadian tire to put on two new Goodyear Eagle GT tires on the front. I drove for about 6 weeks until i started hearing this humming noise coming from the rear, especially when i hit 70k/hr. I assumed it was my old tires getting severely bald and maybe a belt had shifted or something. I went back to CT two weeks ago and purchased the other two tires. They put these ones on the front, and the others on the rear. The noise was still there and progressively started getting worse. I took it back to CT thinking something was wrong with the tire. They took it out and told me that it was a wheel bearing going.

I called honda brantford and told them i think i have a bearing issue. my car was at 99000k and my warranty expire at 100,000k. When i brought it in, the 21 year old kid checked it out and comes back and tells me that my car needs 2 new rear upper control arms, an alignment, and two new tires. $390 not including new tires.

i went back to CT and they looked at it again, hoisted it up, and all their mechanics look at it. again, they come back and all tell me they're 100% sure it's the wheel bearings.

i take it back to honda brantford. tell them i want it covered under my warranty and i want it fixed now. the advisor goes and gets the mechanic kid to come out and drive with me. we start driving and the noise gets louder. i swerve a few times and as the weight is shifted onto the left side, it's incredibly louder. when weight shifted to right side, isn't nearly as noticeable. he tells me he doesn't hear a difference. we go back and he tells me that if it is the tire making the noise, he'll rotate the tires and listen to where it's coming from. i took it away and still noticed it coming from the rear.

i go home and do some research. i found a service bulletin 08-001 that states 2006/'07 civics have a manufacturing defect in the rear upper control arms that cause uneven tire wear and a "bearing" type humming noise coming from the tire. my car is at 99,000k and 3 years, past the warranty for that part.

i call the honda customer service number and start telling the person my ordeal. he tells me i'm not covered under the warranty anymore and i'll have to pay for the service. i start to tell him i have a service bulletin from honda stating they're aware of this manufacturing defect and why should i be punished for this mistake. he says he's aware of the bulletin and asks if i would like him to call brantford honda to figure something out.

he gets back on the phone with me and tells me that he's going to cover the cost of the parts and labour, but i'll be responsible for the cost of an alignment. i was tired by the end of this day long battle and told him that would be great.

i have two service forms here, one telling me it's my bearing, the other saying control arms. is there a 100% way of telling if it's your bearings, or should i get the control arms done and pay for an alignment!?

Luckily I bought this as a certified used Honda warranty for 100,000 miles if I bought this brand only covered for 65,000 miles. I will never buy a new honda again. replaced right rear wheel bearing now I have to replace the left front bearing. Brakes were just fixed.

These suspension problems and bearing problems are no laughing matter. I can't believe Honda is doing such a poor job of dealing with what appears to be a major problem. I'm trading it in and buying a new huyndai. A much better car for less the money. Plus u don't have to deal with the snotty honda dudes that think we need to buy this crap!!

I don't need to say much. The only thing that I hated the most about this problem that the dealer for 6 months gave me the same answer both times I went in to complain about the noise and told me that it was the tires not the bearing. Even when I told him that I know the difference between tire sound and bearing noise. At the end it turned out to be the bearing of course. I had it fixed at a private shop, not at the dealer that I don't trust anymore after putting my life in danger driving the car all this time.. and the wheel could have fallen off.

Good luck with this one! It took me months to get this addressed! The car will make a very loud and distinctive rumbling noise coming from the back. It sounds like a truck. The dealer will insist that there is nothing wrong, but trust me there is. I ended up having to drive my lovely lemon 600 miles back to the dealer that I bought it from in Pennsylvania to get them to fix the car because the dealers in Tennessee did not believe that there was anything wrong. Turned out both back wheel bearings were bad and needed to be replaced. There was also something wrong with the front left camber, one of the tires was cupped and had to be replaced, a wheel was damaged and had to be replaced. Have a blast. This is my third Honda and unfortunately my last.
