bent rear axle/rear alignment issue
Vehicle was purchased new in Johnson City TN in june of 2015. At first oil change provided by dealer they performed a courtesy preliminary alignment check and stated an alignment was necessary. At that time..the vehicle had been driven approximately 5000 miles and the alignment was performed. At the next scheduled oil change ( approximately 12K miles) the dealers preliminary check stated the vehicle was yet again out of spec and suggested it was as a result of rough roads or pothole impact. This was a very suspect comment as the vehicle travels all recently paved highway travel and has never seen any impact. The first set of tires had to be replaced prematurely due to cupped rear tires resulting from alignment. After replacing tires and an independent alignment, rear tires are again cupped and roaring like four wheel drive monster mud tires. A return trip to the dealer for an oil change and alignment revealed rear tires out of spec. I was then informed that the rear fixed axle is non adjustable and the axle appeared to be bent form impact or otherwise. After explaining that the vehicle has never sustained any impact they had no explanation other than a bent axle and quoted a $1200 dollar axle replacement to solve the issue. Of course...they deny any defect in manufacture and warranty is invalid due to mileage(not that it would be a covered repair anyway). Web searches reveal others with the same issue and no recourse other than sinking big money into an uncommon repair. Hopefully more people will report this issue and American Honda will take notice prior to the Fit's reputation becoming tainted.
