Engine will shake violently and the check engine light will flash. Misfiring. Pistons and spark plugs need to be changed. Same issue as found in service bulletin 13-081. Honda diagnosed the problem but will not cover the cost of the repair because my VIN unexplainably not included.

On April 4, 2019, when my vehicle reached approximately 104,000 miles, the car's engine light and vsa light came on while driving. The car idled roughly and would not accelerate. It limped all the way to the mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed the problem, identified by the problem code generated by the vehicle's computer as P0301: Cylinder #1 misfire. The mechanic replaced all the spark plugs and the ignition coil for that cylinder. Two months later, with the odometer at approximately 107,000 miles, the car again malfunctioned, with a rough idle, engine and vsa light, and limping performance. The car was returned to the same independent mechanic, who told us the same problem code (P0301) was generated, indicating a misfire in the first cylinder. The mechanic removed and inspected the spark plug, which showed evidence of oil fouling. Only after the second repair did I find information that the manufacturer had extended the warranty for this specific defect pursuant to a class action settlement. I was never informed by Honda of the suit, settlement, or warranty extension. When I called the Honda dealer to ask them to fix my vehicle pursuant to the settlement's warranty extension, and noted by multiple service bulletins, the dealer declined and said they would not fix the problem until the car broke down for a third time. I called the manufacturer directly, and a representative there also declined to fix the car under the warranty extension, saying they would not do anything until the car broke down again, despite my documentation that the precise conditions for the warranty extension had been met: A problem code of P0301 and a spark plug with oil fouling. Given that this has happened twice within 3,000 miles, my car is not safe to drive, as I don't know when it will break down again due to a known and documented problem the manufacturer refuses to address.

Service bulletin 13-081. Cel (1/7/16) : cylinder 3 coil R/R with spark plug ( other shop - paid $166.75 ) cel (3/11/16) : P2422evap canister came up for same symptom (Honda said code is not P0303 - paid $1722.86) cel (7/18/17) : P0303 misfire no.3 cylinder (autozone) cel (7/18/17 - 10 min from autozone) - P0353 NO3 cylinder ignition coil circuit came up (Honda - paid $255.41 ; Honda said code was not between P0301 to P0304 so I had to pay for it - they do not care what autozone said ) received several times warning when I go and change engine oil from the shop that I do not have any left over oil in the tank. Cel (3/5/18) : found out car has a misfire on cylinder 4 and ring on cylinder 4 is leaking (other service - got a suggestion to go Honda dealer to check) made an appointment at Honda dealer on 3/8/18 without cel. Tech said no code in PCM fi system. He said Honda code is different from any other shop, so they only follow what Honda's computer says.(my opinion is that what if they debug their software after lost settlement not to show code P0301 to P0304 and show little different code for customer's responsibility - what if all others say P0303 ; only Honda comes up with different code) tech said if I do not pay for it, he does not even look at it. He said he does not want to do anything on the engine which has 184,000 miles on it if Honda or I do not pay (it's 2013 Odyssey) he told me this for the oil leaking which every car burn a quart of oil every 1,000 mile, so I have to check oil level all the time. He said when I have another cel on, just come to Honda to check. (do not go any other shop or bring code from other shops - he is not going to agree on any other shop's code or comment) my worry is that if other shops say P0303 or P0304, and Honda says different code which make I pay for it. What's going to happen?

Driving down the highway 70 miles per hour and I adjusted in my seat. My knee knocked the ignition from the "on" position to off. I quickly turned the key back to the on position. The check engine light was on for several days and went off and remained off.

In a unpredictable manner, the van looses power when trying to accelerate at speeds of 35-65 mph. Twice I thought there was a real chance we would get rear ended. Here is what happened on at least 20 occasions over a two week period. 1) I would try to accelerate at speeds of 35-65 mph and usually when going up hill. 2) the van would not respond (accelerate) but rather the eco light would flash on and off 2 or 3 times and many times the rpms would drop rapidly from 2000 down to 1000 or so. 3) even after 1-3 seconds no response. 4) if I removed my foot from the accelerator and then depressed the accelerator again, it would then respond normally. As far as I can recall, the cruise control was not engaged when any of these incidents occurred. After no problems and over 2000 miles later, the van failed to accelerated when gas pedal pressed 5 more times in 2 days. So far for 6 weeks no problem. Also, there are times that the vehicle, when stopped, will hesitate for 1-2 seconds and then surge forward when accelerator is depressed.

We purchased a 2013 Honda Odyssey exl 1 year ago (7/18/16). We immediately experienced excessive vibration of the steering wheel while driving, and also braking at highway speeds. The dealer replaced the front tires about 4 months out to correct the problem. I didn't work. We asked them to consider the rotors as the issue, but they were reluctant since they were just resurfaced them before we bought the vehicle. Eventually, they did agree, and all four rotors needed resurfacing. The service dept told us our 8 month old tires had wear beyond the normal amount, and suggested it was probably caused by the vibration problems. We're getting another set of tires from the dealer, but are concerned that we will soon be having to resurface the rotors again based on the history I've already spoken of here, and other complaints that have been filed. We feel Honda should be forced to recall and replace the rotors on the 2013 Honda Odyssey. There is certainly enough documentation of the problem.

2013 Honda Odyssey. Consumer writes in regards to dealership refusal to provide loaner vehicle until recall repairs are complete, refusal to replace key and battery. The consumer stated there were several recalls on the vehicle. The dealer refused to provide service, because the consumer did not hold a Washington state license.

When driving - our traction control and engine light has come on several times and the engine has been so rough that we had to stop and let it cool down before taking it immediately home. The first time we took it in - we were told that "something" (dirt) may have gotten into the piston chamber and caused a misfire of the spark plugs, but that we should be ok. Then it happened again and again, but becoming more frequent between resetting the codes. We were told just to replace spark plugs 1 & 2. then as we were haggling with Honda over the phone about warranty coverage and the fact that the light was continuing to come on - it happened again but worse: The engine light was flashing and it was sounding worse, so we did not drive it until we could get it serviced. When in the shop this time - we were told after the diagnostic that the van needed a new short block due to faulty pistons/piston rings and it was covered under a recall/warranty. Then, after we left the vehicle at the dealer for a week waiting for them to get the parts and fix it - we called to pick it up. But this time - they said we were not covered, and all they would do is replace the spark plugs 1 through 4 - under warranty.

Upon starting from a stop sign or red light, there is sometimes a "hesitation" where the tachometer falls from around 2000 RPM to about 1000, then recovers after about 1 second. The car has been to the dealer twice - they are unable to replicate the condition.
