I just had the calipers, rotors, and brake pads replaced 18 months ago. The calipers on one of the rear wheels are frozen AGAIN. Now I have to have them replaced and find another way to get to and from work while they are being replaced.

The calipers were frozen and this is what wore out the rotors; it's very expensive to have repaired.

I was getting a slight scraping sound metal on metal. Took a while to find that it was coming from the rear brakes. The rear wheels were very hot so something is wrong. I just figured it out yesterday 08/01/16. I will post the damage/repair results in the next few days. It sounds like taking it to the dealer is a waste of time so I think I might go to a repair shop instead. I have never owned a car where the brakes went a such a low mileage. The brakes are working fine but I am not going to drive more than a couple miles until I have them looked at.

Update from Aug 4, 2016: Today, 08/04/16 my brother and myself replaced the rear pads and rotors ourselves after watching many you tube videos. It cost 120 dollars for parts. You can get them for less if you shop online and there are different quality pads. I went with the mid price pads. It was the first time that either one of us did it and it was actually pretty easy. We did run into a problem though. The caliper would not fit over the new pads. we could not get the caliper piston to retract all the way. So back to google/you tube. Turns out that this model has the emergency/parking brake integrated with the caliper housing. So instead of pushing the caliper piston flush, you have to rotate it with a special tool. We borrowed the tool where we bought the parts with a 50 dollar deposit which they credited upon return. The pads were so bound up in the bracket clips we had to put the housing in a vice and pound them out. On the drivers side the outside pad was worn much more than the inside. The passenger side was pretty even. I am not 100% sure if there is any other issues and will post if it is something else. Just search caliper piston tool on you tube and if you buy them online and not from a auto part store they may charge you a fee for using the tool. I would. Again,if you are mechanically inclined it is not that hard to do. The first side took two hours due to the lack of knolledge about the caliper piston and getting the tool, the other side took 25 minutes..

Started hearing grinding noise coming from my rear brakes mostly the right rear side. Sounds like metal to metal very annoying. Took it to the dealership to have it looked at being told that I need new rear pads and my rotors resurfaced..WTH!!!! Blaming my driving on them going out so soon. Let me just say NEVER EVER!! in my life of owning a car did my rear brakes go out especially on 24,000 miles... This is a load of BS. I took it to Firestone because I had a gut feeling that something wasn't right. They are telling me my rotors need to be replaced , pads and calipers especially the right side which is worn more than the left side. The shop Manager advised me to take it back to the dealership and demand them to fix this under warranty. I took it back again to the dealership driving on my bad brakes and all they can say is that it is ridiculous that Firestone said this and is incorrect.. That all they wanted was to take my money ..Really?? If Firestone wanted to take my money why would the Manager send me back to the dealership. I feel like Hyundai is the one that wants to take my money cause they don't want to admit there is a issue and honor the Warranty way to go for having a such a fabulous "WARRANTY" cause Hyundai will try everything to get around it. There is multiple complaints on forums that Hyundai is known for bad caliper and rotors are not the best. I am hoping this dealership steps up and resolves my issue or I will complain to my face turns blue. I will post the outcome as soon as the dealership contacts me

brakes were making this grinding noise and felt like they were dragging. Once I stopped and restarted movement the car felt held back. I brought my car in to Merchants Tire in Warrenton. They got me right in, got the car up on the lift and found the calipers to be "faulty". There is a gouge in the rotor from uneven wear. The mechanic informed me of the diagnostic and then called Browns Manassas Hyundai and spoke with a mechanic. They seemed to agree that it was definately factory default, told me to bring it in and they would repair it under warranty. I made an appt for 3:30 the next day. At noon I received a call from Brown's stating the shop was not useable due to a storm and they had set an appt at the Fairfax, VA Hyundai dealer. I drove the 45 miles out to Hyundai in my car with the bad brakes. I explained all of the above and they were complete jerks. They put the car on the lift and proceeded to tell me it was definately not the calipers, the brake pads were worn evenly and there is no gouge on the rotor. I called Hyundai Customer Service and spoke with Gustavo (yes, Gustavo) I explained the run around I was getting. He called Fairfax Hyundai and spoke with the service department. I get a phone call stating that "It is, after all, the caliper. It only needs cleaned, but new pads and a rotor are about $450. They will not approve a rental car while they fix the problem" At this point I think they're full of crap! One minute it's not the calipers and the pads are evenly wearing and the next minute, it is the calipers and brake pads. The mechanic proceeds to tell me he spent a half hour with a screw driver trying to pull the brake pad out of the rotor. Get my car off the lift and DO NOT TOUCH IT! I drove back out to Fairfax and got my car, drove back to Warrenton and have an appt with Winchester Hyundai to take a look at it. I understand why Hyundai offers such a good warranty. THEY DON"T HONOR IT!!!! At this point, I have a brand new car (basically) sitting in my driveway that I cannot drive. I still have to make those payments on time though. Still do not have a response as to what is wrong. I can tell you that Merchants Tire is extremely p.o.'d and back their diagnosis 100%. I am going to write to BBB, Consumer Reports, Hyundai and The CEO of Fairfax Hyundai. Let's see where that get's me?
