Accent GLS 1.6L

I purchased this car brand new with 5 miles on the odometer and I was supposed to drive this car until the wheels fell off, but somewhere between the 60,000 and 80,000 mile mark I realized my car was starting to guzzle oil and it was getting worse as the mileage increased. After a few trips to different shops since my car was no longer under warranty, only one mechanic was able to find a solution: I needed a new engine. I couldn’t afford it at the time, so I continued to add oil as needed, at every 500 miles at it’s worst. I ended up getting rid of it in favor of a Camry. Seeing as there is a class action lawsuit against Hyundai regarding this issue and the Accent is not listed as an affected vehicle, I felt it necessary to share my experience since I took care of my car and never missed an oil change.

After 60,000 miles, the engine started to progressively burn oil. At first I could go between oil changes every 3,000 miles and not burn any oil, it would still be visible on the dip stick. After about 80,000 miles I was adding a 1/2 quart every 600 miles. I brought it into the dealership and they would not find anything wrong with the engine, and charged me $90 for the engine analysis fee. I sold the car and will never buy another Hyundai.

I took the car to the dealer where I purchased- Suresky in Goshen, NY. They did an oil consumption test. Every 1000 miles I was told my car lost 1/2 quart of oil. According to them, this is standard. Really?? When I first reported the problem, my check engine light was on, they checked oil, were astonished the dip stick didn't show a drop of oil. So after months, of this oil consumption test, it was concluded, that they will send report to Hyyndai. The reply was that they have to take the car for several nights to do other tests. F*ck that! So I'm living with the fact that my oil light goes on- went back again to them and they told me they would do another oil consumption test!!!!!!!!!!!!! I left after they did an oil change since I had no oil in my engine again. I'm not going through another oil consumption test to get the same f*ckin response again. It's under the 100,000 mile guarantee, but if the dealer where I purchased the car does not want to help me, I'm stuck. I hate Hyundai, Hate Suresky in Goshen, NY!!!!

excessive oil consumption excessive oil consumption

Since January I’ve been trying to get my Hyundai Accent 2012 serviced by Stevens Creek Hyundai for unexplained engine burning oil. I don’t have oil leaking out of my car, and I don’t have blue or white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. Although I change my oil regularly, the technician blamed me for not constantly changing my oil more often. Instead of running a diagnostic, they marked my dipstick and filled out an oil consumption worksheet. At 37150, the oil level was full at the maximum. A month later on at 37820 my oil level was already half a quart lower.

However, the technician said I had to bring my car in two more time to determine if my engine is really burning “enough” oil. Although, the records showed that in 670 miles, the car burned half a quart of oil, the technician didn’t seem too concerned. In fact, he implied that I should expect some oil burning. I have to conclude the engine burning for Hyundai is expected, and within their expected tolerance. I now understand why the warranty is too good to be true. Hyundai never intends to honor it.
