I have seen other complaints about the electronic stability control (ESC) on the 2012 Hyundai Elantra and it is exactly what we experienced with ours. After a lot of back-and-forth with Hyundai (both corporate and the dealership), they finally had their technicians diagnose the issue (99% sure) as being a faulty yaw rate sensor which fooled the ESC into believing the car was losing control when it wasn't. I am writing this so others with this problem can now (hopefully) get their issues fixed before someone gets seriously hurt. We love the car other than this one scary issue.

It's like Someone driving drink! The car doesn't drive straight. Constantly correcting down the road and sometimes it feels like the wheel locks into place. I have taken the car in at least 4 times for this problem and they say it just needs a wheel alignment. my brother needed the car one day and when he got back he was shocked at how crazy the car handled. He said we should take it in again. I called customer care and that got me nowhere. This was bought new and from day one it has problems. In the first 8 thousand miles the rear tires had wore out. They replaced the rear carrier and new tires. The car was taken in 3 times for running rough. Now the car has 48,000 and sometimes sing start. I traded it in. No more problems. The worst car ever. Oh and they lied about the gas mileage. Its a little gas sucker. Larry h. Miller car dealer next to cottonwood mall in nm was horrible. Worst customer care and I buy lots of cars.

pulls to one side

The Elantra 2012 has a very serious problem. It pull to the left all the time and that is into the oncoming traffic.

Even worse then that, happened to me my steering wheel locked on me while I was driving on major highway in Nova Scotia, Canada on November 2 2012. The steering went from pulling to the left to locking and would not make a turn on the 101 hwy at exit 7, and because of that defect I had a frontal accident with a 5 ton truck. The truck ran completely over me and the worst thing is that the police, the insurance and Hyundai could not find what went wrong because too many parts was missing from this tragic accident.

So you know how I feel about this car. Can't wait for a recall so I can do something about all of this because nothing was done so far.

Thanks

pulls to one side

this car was pulling to the left all the time and some how the steering gear lock on the hwy and I could not make a turn and therefore had a terrible accident. I ran into a on coming traffic at 100km/h and was lucky to survive. hope someone is looking at these complaint and make something with this because I don't want anybody else to go what I went through. it has been almost a year and everything is still stressfull behind the wheel, but its not an elantra. I can guaranty you this that car scare me for life. and still no recall on this problem its hard to believe with all the complaint regarding the steering they should investigate. my elantra was so damage and so many parts missing that they could not see what when wrong so it been really bad but I am alieve and I can tell what happened you just have to ask and I will testified if needed.

I purchased the car two days ago and when I test drove it I noticed it pulled to the left and the sales person said they would do an alignment on it. When i dove it home I noticed that it was hard to keep the car in a straight line. It would pull to the left and then the right. The steering was very difficult. I then took the car back the next morning and they said they would reset the computer to match the tires and it should be fine. NOT.... the problem persisted and Im going back again tomorrow. I searched on line tonight and found that there are numerous people with the same compliant and they showed videos of the same situation. Everyone that complained said they got the run around by Hyundai and they did nothing for them. It is very dangerous to drive this car and Im very upset that I made a mistake in purchasing this car before researching the complaints on line. This mistake has now cost me $19000.00 and a headache...........

I took my 2012 Elantra to the dealer thinking it needed an alignment because it would not steer straight. The alignment did not fix it and now I see others have the same problem. I'm worried about the safety of this car.
