CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Tucson comes with a dual-clutch, 7-speed transmission. But Hyundai forgot to tell you about one key phrase – zero-move. That's right, an alarming number of owners have said their SUV wouldn't accelerate after a stop.

Turns out that's because the transmission's application logic has been stumbling all over itself. Hyundai recalled the issue in September 2016, but it's difficult to say if owners are out-of-the-woods, or if this is just a sign of things to come.

The vehicle accelerates suddenly without driver input. Also, it turns off while driving, causing the loss of brake and steering controls. Finally, transmission gear switch without input while driving. This situations occur while driving in both city and highway driving. The vehicle was taken to dealer on 12/26/19; no response has been received either from dealer or manuifacturer.

The driver side brake lights are failing intermittently. However the bulbs are still working. When I switch the brake lights between the left and the right, the problem still remains on the left side. However the problem goes away and all the brake lights are working for a while. I have not figured out a pattern to how long they work to how long they don't work. There is no problem with the switch since 2 out of 3 lights are always working. It is not a light bulb problem because the failure did not follow the bulb after switching them.

My vehicle was recalled in 2016, shortly after I leased it, for a known issue with the transmission. Prior to my recall appointment, I was stopped at a traffic light. When the light turned green, I pressed the gas and the car failed to accelerate. When it finally did, it surged forward into an intersection. While very scary, no one was hurt. The recall issue was "addressed" by the dealer. In February 2019, the car again had an issue where it failed to accelerate. I was in a parking lot on a slight incline. I put the car in reverse, it backed up. I put the car in drive and hit the gas. Not only did the car fail to accelerate forward but the brake was stuck. Without being able to control the car, it reversed until it hit a dumpster, busting my tail light and putting a dent in my trunk. Again, luckily no one was injured. It is well documented that this year, make and model have had the issue that I am describing. There have been suits under the lemon law. Moreover, the manufacturer and dealer have been less than helpful. It took multiple calls to get a national caseworker assigned. When I finally received a call, inwas told to bring it to the dealer for diagnostics. My car has been with the dealer for 5 days with no answers and and no loaner vehicle. At this point I feel it is necessary to write to you to take action. Safety should be paramount to any car manufacturer. Ignoring the well-documented history of this car's safety issues, cannot be tolerated. Failure to act, and worse, attempts to somehow place onus on the lessee is an ethical issue and an attempt for the manufacturer to save face. This vehicle is not safe. The issue is intermittent and cannot be predicted. Any attempt to put me back in a faulty vehicle to collect my last 4 monthly payments is a disgusting display of a lack of concern for driver's safety.

I had been driving my 2016 Hyundai, Tucson, for over 5 hours on highway. After taking a break, and returning back to highway, my car suddenly began accelerating from my 60mph speed to over 80mph. I took my foot off gas pedal and tapped brake pedal. The brake pedal hit the floor with no resistance, as the car continued to accelerate. After successfully pulling car off highway, I applied emergency brake to stop car. After having it towed to nearest Hyundai dealer, they were unable to duplicate problem, and told me there was nothing wrong. The car is routinely in for service.

We purchased a 2016 Tucson limited on black Friday of 2016. This vehicle was equipped with the autonomous emergency braking (aeb) safety option, as is advertised and demonstrated on the Hyundai website with video. We experienced a minor front-end collision at approximately 8-10 mph while merging into traffic at a yield from highway exit ramp. Based on the advertised function and video, should have been prevented by the aeb. Subsequent to this collision, we began seeing intermittent warning notifications to clean the front radar even though there was no dirt or any obstruction. These messages would spontaneously clear after approximately 30-60 seconds. We took the vehicle to the dealership to be evaluated. The vehicle was with the dealership for almost two weeks and after extensive testing - which included multiple road tests, multiple simulated obstruction detection, a pedestrian challenge by the service manager, literature reviews, and an onsite evaluation from Hyundai engineering ' and after all of these evaluations, the service department was also unable to trigger the aeb under any conditions although the electronic scan indicates that the radar is operative. They have returned the vehicle to us with the statement that it is functioning as intended. The aeb is not demonstrably functioning, regardless of radar operation.
