CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Tucson comes with a dual-clutch, 7-speed transmission. But Hyundai forgot to tell you about one key phrase – zero-move. That's right, an alarming number of owners have said their SUV wouldn't accelerate after a stop.

Turns out that's because the transmission's application logic has been stumbling all over itself. Hyundai recalled the issue in September 2016, but it's difficult to say if owners are out-of-the-woods, or if this is just a sign of things to come.

Transmission would not go into reverse. Check engine light came on. Driving forward with check engine light on causes hesitation between gears. The problem will fix itself usually after restarting the engine a few times. I learned that if you hear a click click click sound when starting the car, that usually indicates the reverse will not engage. I took this to a Hyundai dealership and they recommended a full transmission replacement for $6k-$7k. They would not cover the cost of the replacement since I am not the original owner. The car was only 6 years old with 94k miles when this issue began.

DON'T BUY ANY HYUNDAI VEHICLE. THEY DON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES UNTIL THE ARE FORCED TO. My vehicle has been in for service 5 times. They have tried to update the dual clutch software to no avail The vehicle cannot be fixed and they know it..They just lie to me and say there is nothing wrong with it and deal with it.. Well I'm not going away. Lawyer has been called.

Numerous times there is a lot of hesitation when starting from a stop.

The sales manager at the dealership said that he was unaware of the problems with the transmission. A technician at the dealership said that he would not keep the car if it were him.

We are considered elderly over 70 years young and I bought this car for my wife because I thought that it was the safest car of it's size on the market. I never thought that a 2016 model of any kind would have the kind of transmission problems that this car has and I never considered that a transmission should be considered as an unsafe feature but it is dangerous and we will do whatever we can to move to another vehicle.

Today, I was driving it and backing out of my driveway. Since the car was drifting forward and I was focused on looking at the RPM's and the fact that the car was barely moving backward as I depressed the accelerator , I didn't see the car coming down the street. Fortunately, my wife cautioned me and then the warnings went off as they were designed, but it is these kind of additional problems of lurching or not engaging that creates a real dangerous situation when driving this vehicle. You cannot depend on the car to respond to your pressing on the gas pedal.

Sometimes the RPM's go way up and the car doesn't move and then it lurches forward.

This is an intermittent problem that I have had since the car was new. While stopped at a stoplight with my foot on the brake, the car shudders slightly as if the transmission is trying to engage.

Same problem as a lot of the others. This Tuscon never seemed right. The transmission would jerk, never seemed to engage right and wa told it would break in. Then when turning right, behind other traffic , I started to move ok, then it just reved up past 4000 or more and just wuldn,t go. Pulled over to the shoulder and played around with it but no go, Then all of a sudden it started to move and drove normally. Tok it to the dealer and they installed a "recall". Everything ok for a while and then I nstopped behind another at turning left at a light and after he turned I started my tur and it went alittle and then the same thing, high RPM but no go. Traffic was bearing down at me but fortunately the light changed and they had to stop.

Same problem as everybody else. Bought a new 2016 Tuscon Ultimate in July 2016. Lovely car, but it never seemed to run right. The tranny was jerky and shifts were erratic. Was told it would break in. Then in October after pulling right into traffic it started to go ok, and then it just revved up to 4000 or more RPM and it wasn't going anywhere. Rolled to the shoulder and played with things and all of a sudden it goes and seemed OK. Took it to the dealers and they said they just got in a recall on the tranny and installed it. Everything is ok until in November, while turning left at a light, the car in front of me turned and I started my turn and it went 10 feet or so and revved up but wouldn't go and I'm broadside to oncoming traffic one of which was a gravel truck, but fortunately the light changed and they had to stop. SUPER SCARY. Played with it again and got it home(about a mile) phoned the dealer and told them I would not drive this car and would not allow my wife to drive it .They said they would get back to me and to make a long story short they made me an offer I couldn't refuse on a Santa Fe..Nice car but liked the Tuscon better) My old car is on their lot for sale!!!!!!!

I have filed prior complaints about this problem as have thousands of other owners. A recall was issues within the past few months regarding this same issue. I brought the car into the dealer and had the transmission "reprogrammed" as outlined in the recall. The issue is still present and poses a very serious safety issue. When the gas pedal is pressed from a stop, the car will hesitate for appr. 1-2 seconds and feel like it will die. The car will then lunge forward as if the gas pedal had been floored. The brake has to be released at least 1-2 seconds prior to accelerating. My family cannot feel safe pulling into traffic as we don't know if the car will actually move when needed to. When coming to a stop, the car will stop then lunge forward again. When coasting at a very low speed as in traffic, the car will "bounce" as if it were a manual transmission and the gas pedal was not pressed. It feels like it will die. When accelerating while moving, there is not a smooth shift between gears as if the clutch plate is not fully engaging.

Got the New 2016 Hyundai Tuscan loaded and loved it. Until I am at a stop light in a busy city and step on the gas and the car refuses to move. I had to finally turn the car off and back on to get it to move. No warning or problem lights were lit up. Called my dealer and they said they have never heard of the problem. Hyundai says there is no problem so there is no problem. Over the course of the next few months, the car has refused to go in reverse..lurched and hesitated. Finally it had to be towed to the dealership.

Finally 2 weeks ago the dealership called me all excited that Hyundai had a fix and now there was a real problem because Hyundai said so. I was not as excited because of there was a fix so easy Ford would have done it years ago. So now I have taken my 4th day with no pay to address this issue. After having the issue addressed in service bulletin...the car did drive smoother and shift and engage as it should. Then guess what? It is back to it's old tricks. The fix is not a fix at all. This car is dangerous. I never know when it will act up and what mess I will be in. I was nearly run over by a semi when entering the interstate a few weeks before. There needs to be a true recall or buy back of all of the cars. What does Hyundai think our lives are worth? I wont allow children in this car. The fix is NOT a fix.

Tucson Sport 1.6L Dct

2016 Hyundai Tucson Sport has DCT transmission that is not functioning properly. Hyundai has admitted problem but has no fix for it. Supposedly engineers are working on the problem and might have a fix in a month. Have filed complaint with NHTSA and Hyundai USA. Car is not safe to drive, as it either won't switch into gear, won't move when accelerator pushed, or slips out of gear and will only go 10 mph. The car is dangerous and not safe to drive.

Tucson ECO 1.6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,440 miles

On Saturday, June 25, 2016, I put my vehicle into drive gear and it would not move forward. I purchased my 2016 Tucson Eco in December 2015. It has 8,440 miles on it. I usually drive in Eco mode which saves the most gas. I average 33 miles a gallon. This is a very dangerous and serious problem. This is the first time this has happened. I have an appointment with the dealership. The soonest available appointment is 10 days away. I will respond with an update on my Tucson after my maintenance appointment.

Update from Jul 23, 2016: When I took my Eco Tucson to the dealer, I was told this is a common problem. Hyundai is aware of the transmission problems and is working n a fix for it. The dealer tried to replicate the problem but of course my vehicle ran fine and passed all the tests they ran. They ended up resetting all my transmission modes. Since I've gotten my Tucson back from the dealer, I went on a 3,000 mile road trip. My Tucson Eco performed well in all 3 driving modes with no hint of hesitation. So far, it looks like the resetting works.
