CarComplaints.com Notes: There's no way around it, the Cherokee's transmission is junk. There's no other explanation for why a vehicle, usually with under 40,000 miles, would have so many complaints

Had to get towed. First dealer was terrible. towed to a second dealer. Not sure on them yet. Doesn't look very good considering all the bad things I have read about this year, model and transmission.

Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,500 miles

When putting engine into reverse, received several error codes on dash: "service transmission", "check parking brake", "put into park and then into desired gear", "restart engine". Vehicle would not go into reverse. Had to shut off engine and restart to get car to back up. Then check engine light came on along with the anti-skid light. After waiting a week to get it into dealership, service dept said it needed a computer update and cleared code. "If it happens again, we'll have to investigate further". Within 36 hours, the error codes started again. Will take 2 weeks until dealership can look at it again.

Two weeks later. As parked and idling, when went to put vehicle into reverse, dashboard lit up with all warning lights and error codes... again.....Had same problem on July 31, dealership updated computer and cleared engine code. Codes were: " service transmission", " check park brake", "put into park then into desired gear", "restart engine". Then check engine light came on again.

Called dealership to complain (yell) , told them this was less than 2 weeks and vehicle is only 5 months old, one more time and it's a lemon. Dealership manager said, "that's not my problem, take it up with Chrysler" and refused to help me, as matter of fact hung up on me. I filed complaint with Chrysler Care regarding dealership and made them aware of possible lemon car.

Cherokee Latitude 2.4L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,265 miles

Got to leave, put it in reverse and it rolled forward which my drive has a downward slant but never done it before. When I gave it the gas heard a loud boom from the rear end, put it in park then drive and wouldn't move. The ESC light, Brake light and Engine Mal light was on, it said shift to park, then flashed service transmission and service park brake.

Just last week had a software update for something, they didn't say, apparently fixed my rough idle and hard starting problems, what a piece of junk! Will be consulting my states lemon law.
