We spoke with the dealership and were advised that it was a coding problem with the software and that a patch was needed. They installed the software patch to the computer system and stated the transmission was fine and did not need to be replaced. When asked about how they already had the software patch in place, we were advised that they already had it and it was a known issue. We inquired why weren’t we contacted if it was a known issue and were told that they didn’t know which Jeeps were affected so had to “wait and see” which cars presented with a problem. This is a really safe and customer oriented solution! So Jeep knew there was an issue and that the transmission could stop functioning at any time and failed to advise their customers through phone, email, or mail communication even though the safety and security of their customers was at stake here.

I do not feel safe in my vehicle or that I can take it on long car trips (i.e. more than 30 minutes). This is a brand new vehicle and if I wanted a clunker I would have bought a used vehicle and taken my changes. Part of what you are buying with a new car is the safety and security of knowing you won’t have to deal with these issues with LESS THAN 25K miles on the car.

What if this were at night? What if I was alone with my child? What if it wasn’t normal business hours? What if we were 10 hours from home and in the middle of nowhere? What if this was your 18 year old daughter up in the mountains and in the ice and snow and her transmission failed? What if we were in a horrible car accident and someone was injured or worse, what if it was fatal? I’ve never been more disappointed with a company for failing to put basic respect and safety in front of the bottom line. My questions for Jeep are what are you going to do to make this right? What are you going to do to make this better and make our car safe?

First check engine light on 4/23/2016, "service transmission". Took it to a dealership who said that it stored the code so it is a software or TCM problem and once it cycles a couple of times, the light will disappear. Well, it did! Then it came back on 4/3/2016 as we were entering an intersection and lost all transmission control.

We nearly got t-boned. Car crept to a parking lot and we shut it off. After about 10 minute, we started it back up, put it in gear (with a loud clunk) and took it to our dealership. Well, they said that it was not a danger and to bring it back on Monday (May 2nd), so we did. We picked it up on May 4th and was told that the software needed updating. So, I drove my daughter to church and it messed up the whole way there. It hard shift, clunked, lost transmission during a turn through an intersection and then lunged forward when it finally caught the gear.

I called the dealership and took it right back. They kept it until May 18th, replaced all kinds of things including the transmission, the TCM, parking break modules, etc. I drove it 3 days and it started acting out again. So, I took it back on May 23rd (Monday). They called me on June 1st and said it was ready. I had the dealership print me out the detailed service reports and the VIP report. It is amazing that they say they have worked so hard on it but the tech only logged a small amount of time on it.

The last trip was on May 23rd and that is the only day that they tech looked at it. Yet, they kept it until June 1st? What is up with that? Well, I had been talking with the dealership where I bought it from and they said if it did it again to call them. The day I picked it up, the transmission immediately started slipping, so I called them and they said bring it to them.

Today is June 7th and they still have it. The engineer from Chrysler will be here tomorrow to look at it. They said he is going to take out the transmission and tear it apart to find the problem. Guess who else will be there, too? You got it, ME!!!

Same explanation but this specific incident happened today for the second time so I'm filing another complaint!

I love Jeeps and have owned more than one but I am beyond disappointed with the new Cherokee's. I will start by saying, I didn't do much research on these vehicles before purchase as I figured I was buying a brand new car, what could go wrong? My fault, lesson learned. Everything was great from the jump although I felt like the car drove fairly rough, especially for a new car. Lurching forward when I go to accelerate, sometimes taking a second to even move after my foots been on the gas. Jerking hard when it dropped under 1000 RPM's slowing down at a stop light or parking. It was a little disheartening but I tried to write it off figuring it was just how the car drove. Then I hit about the year mark of ownership and everything goes downhill.

I am driving to work Saturday afternoon and I get rear ended. Nothing major, but the car definitely needed some fixing. After weeks of back and forth with the insurances I finally had a chance to get it in the shop. I make an appointment for Monday morning to drop it off. It's the Saturday before and again on my way to work, the battery light flashes on my dash and the car all of a sudden just stops, tells me to shift gears into park and then shift back to drive. Well, no such luck. Car is dead, won't start, but has power. The car is brand new, there's no way the battery is dead nor that there should be any transmission or engine issues.

As I'm waiting for the tow truck to arrive, just for shts and giggles I decide to try and turn the car on and voila! it works. I cautiously drive to work and miraculously make it in one piece although the car is definitely not driving right. On my way home that night the battery light flashed on again and right when I thought the car was going to die on me again in the middle of a turn, it jerked and made some grinding noises and then kept driving. Luckily I made it home and the car sat in the driveway until Monday morning when I had it towed to the shop. Tell them what happened and that it has always driven a little funny. They gave me a bunch of bullshit responses as to the driveability and the ins and outs of how these new 9 speed transmissions are in so many words, sh*t. Not that they would say that of course but that's all I heard. Had no real explanation as to why the car just died on me and looked pretty puzzled.

Basically, these transmissions are all computer based which lets be real, technology is fantastic but it is not foolproof. And neither are these transmissions, clearly. So they told me about the software updates that they could check for and they also listed off many other ridiculous reasons such as multiple drivers causing issues as well as lets say something as simple as your windshield washer fluid light is on, that that could set off the system and cause these kinds of issues. You're telling me that because my windshield washer fluid is low or I need an oil change that that is going to cause my car to just cut off on me while I'm driving?

As many others have stated, thank goodness I wasn't on the highway at this point or on a major road in the middle of traffic. I'm appalled at the fact that somehow there still hasn't been a recall on these transmissions or any significant fix to them because someone hasn't been severely injured or died. That is pure insanity. So now I'm stuck in a car that I don't feel safe driving in and you're basically telling me you did the software updates on it and everything is fine.

I left the dealership having the same drivability issues and no peace of mind only to have my car cut off on me again, this morning. Same exact thing happened with the battery light flashing on and then it telling me to shift out of gear into park. I had to have it towed to the dealership again, this time having to pay out of pocket as well as now I have to pay for a rental car in the meantime and I can't do a damn thing until tomorrow morning as it is Sunday.

So what is the resolution this time? A new transmission? Another reset or software update (That they don't inform you of when they come up, weird.)? A replacement car of the same vehicle? Or will I be treated like a customer looking for a brand new car with a trade in that is thousands of dollars upside down because it lost so much value in the first year of ownership, and end up paying hundreds of dollars a month for a car that is barely worth half that? Or do I wait for this to happen a third time so I can file a lemon law suit? All because there is no "significant evidence" that this is a real issue. I am really not sure where to go from here but am hoping to get some answers soon!

Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,141 miles

Ya know as a youngster growing up in the 70s and 80s, I had heard it often spoken among the circles of family and friends that Chrysler Transmissions suck. Period. They were unreliable cars and trucks and to be avoided. From that point and throughout my adult life, I stuck with what I knew - General Motors vehicles. I owned 5 of them. I'm not naive in thinking that GM doesnt have its share of problems with quality, yet, aside from minor issues like a bad wheel hub, one occassion of cosmetic clear coat issues on factory wheels, and a minor electrical problem with the power windows, I never had a truly terrible experience with them. All told, 25 solid years of driving GM without major problems.

That all changed when I bought my first Chrysler vehicle. I'm kicking myself now for not still heeding that sage advise from friends and family from long ago.

I purchased my Anvil blue Cherokee Trailhawk this past July 2015. I was excited about owning a Jeep and was really impressed with the apparent quality construction, ride comfort and features. The price was not cheap, but I felt that it was a good pick. And I still felt that way for the first few weeks after driving it off the lot.

But then the Chrysler suck struck my jeep down, and from what I have read, it appears many others have had the same experience.

My jeep would not shift out of 4th gear. It clunked and jerked when switching from drive to reverse, slamming all the occupants forward in their seats. Stopped at a stop light? prepare to have your foot firmly slammed on the pedal to the floor and watch old folks in scooters pass you as you try to accelerate. Fun! Want to turn left without a green arrow? Fine, but hope the on-coming traffic has good brakes and reflexes - youll inch along. Oh, and when you do get going, be prepared to watch your tach climb toward the redline as your car strains as it passes 40 MPH.

So, into the dealership I go on my day off. I tell them the problem, they pull out their fancy tablet and see all the error codes. They set me up with a rental and then give me the news two days later that the transmission would need to be replaced.

So now I wait. The forecast is that it will be two weeks until I get my jeep back. I wince when I think of the future. My jeep had 8K miles and the Tranny sh*t the bed - what else can I expect in the coming years? What happens when my warranty is expired? There goes the plan to hold onto the jeep for years to come after the payments are done. I have the scary feeling that the Chrysler suck will be haunting me more.

The bottomline is this. If Chrysler knows there are so many problems with these transmissions, how can the dealer in good conscience, sell such a dysfunctional turd? NEVER AGAIN CHRYSLER! I tried you once and will ensure I continue to pass the advice I received when I was a kid to my own and others I know. Your cars suck, and you suck! You can say all day every day that you're making the customer whole at your expense by fixing the problem, thats great. But how about taking it a step further and suspending sales of these craptacular cars until you and your incompetent engineers go back to school to understand how to build a transmission.

This is only step one. I'll be writing to FCA (I dont expect much of course, as they will probably say something like "we are sorry for your inconvenience and bad experience, but FCA is committed to customer satisfaction...blah, blah, blah...yada. yada"); Ill be contacting the NHTSA as well as any other watchdog groups with influence who can apply pressure on FCA. What can FCA do for me? Full refund. I want my downpayment back, you take the keys, and Ill go shopping somewhere else.

BTW. You suck!

We bought a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited in January of 2015 and in May we drove to Washington DC for our move. While I was driving the

check engine light came on and then would not go over 35. Imagine driving 35 in DC traffic while keeping an eye on the RPMS which was up to 4 RPMs and making sure it did not get hot. We were fortunate to make it to a Chrysler dealership.

First let me state the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited did have a recall on the transmission and air bags. Before we started our trip we took it in to take care of that. The Dealership in DC told us we needed a new transmission. At this point I contacted Jeep and was given a Case manager to help take care of this. We picked up the Jeep two days later and while driving home (in DC traffic) I took a left hand turn and the vehicle automatically turned right. It took all my strength and my husband to get the car to a safe place.

Their poor decision to put this on the market before working on transmission and power steering issues will more then likely cost lives.

My husband and I were able to trade our Jeep in for a 2015 Toyota 4Runner, but we took a $10,000.00 loss. We tried many times to get Jeep to help us but we were told they can not help unless the SAME PART breaks three times.Lemon Law I am sure that after reading all the Rants and Raves JEEP will be going to court. It may not be for a couple of years, but that's ok because I have kept all feedback and paper work needed.

Everyone with 2015 JEEP Cherokee document everything.

What a huge disappointment, a devoted Dodge / Jeep customer. Imagine the horror of buying a brand new $27000 car and at 3500 miles having it gone for a month to await a new transmission. The communication, support and customer service at both the dealership and corporate level were horrible to include the local dealer where I've purchased 5 vehicles telling me that I needed to get it to the dealer 40 miles away as they didn't have a transmission technician.

The vehicle was revving at 5500 rpms at 55 mph. I shouldn't of been allowed to leave the lot. Roadside towed it but wanted me to pay anything over the 11 miles as that is all that is covered by warranty. Fortunately the receiving dealer agreed to cover the balance. After that it was a month of dealing with the annoying case manager, no venue for communicating in writing with her for records, few or no calls or updates, promised dates fell through, one thing after another.

I loved everything about this car but now? I don't trust it at all. Did I get anything from Chrysler Llc for my headache? Not even a letter of apology. Very unfortunate, I really try to buy products made entirely or mostly in the USA which Jeep meets the criteria but this may change my mind. Think twice before dealing with Chrysler. Damn shame.

I purchased a Latitude V6 2WD 2 months ago. This past Sunday, while stopping at a stop light, the car made a dinging noise, the check engine light came on along with the message that the Start/Stop Feature was not working. When I began to accelerate, the car would not shift gears and by the time I got to 40 mph my RPM's were at 4,000. After a mile or so, I was able to pull over and turn the car off. When I restarted the car, the check engine light remained on but it was driving fine until I got to the next stop light. The same thing happened again.

On Monday, I had the car towed to the dealership. They told me that they performed updates on my car and resolved the issue. I requested them to test drive it for good measure and was assured all was well on Tuesday morning. I picked up the car on Tuesday afternoon and before I could get to the highway, the same error returned! This time I was able to accelerate normally without the RPM issue but as I was slowing my car, the down shifting was extremely rough. The service guy brought his tablet into my car and said that the errors were coming from the PCM. Today, Wednesday, he informed me that they were replacing the PCM. I should get it back tomorrow or Friday. I will follow up on this issue.

7/31 - Replacing the PCM did not fix the issue. They are now replacing the transmission - which is on a 3 week back order. Not sure what I am going to do next - weighing my options.

The only good thing I have to say is that the dealership I bought the car from has really tried to make this as painless as possible - even switching out my rental car to accommodate my vacation plans.

Cherokee Trailhawk Sport V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,200 miles

For a few days I had noticed that my 2015 Jeep Cherokee-Trailhawk was definitely not shifting right. It seemed clunky and would hesitate to go into hear when I shifted, or seem to be in between gears or out of gear when I'd let off the gas and then fail to respond when I hit the gas for a few seconds until it went back into the right gears. Additionally it would seem to surge forward a bit or speed up when I'd be trying to coast or slow down. Most of it wasn't too noticeable at first, but seemed to be getting a bit worse.. On Thursday July 30, 2015, I called my dealer to see if I could get it in to have it looked at. I was told they had no openings for like three weeks, but they agreed to "try" and look at it on the following Monday if I dropped it off.

The next day, July 30, 2015, I drove 10 miles to work. Before I could get there I got a warning light that said transmission is too hot, or something similar, and the transmission light went on. I called the dealer from work and explained the issue and they managed to give me an actual appointment with a time and service manager for the following Monday.

When I started the Jeep after work it was worse than before. It didn't want to go into reverse and was having the same hesitation in shifting, etc. On the way home it again showed that the transmission was overheating within about 8 miles. I managed to get to my kids daycare (within about a mile of the dealer) and shut off the vehicle. When I returned and turned on the Jeep I got the "Service Transmission", "Service Parking Brake", "Four Wheel Drive Unavailable" warnings. Also I got a message that said something about shut off engine and place in park to restart... It was already in park.. ahem..

It got worse from there. At that point I had loud clanking noises when I tried to shift and the vehicle wouldn't shift into lower gears. I managed to get it to the dealer and parked in front of their service entrance and explained that the transmission had just completely failed. They gave me a rental fortunately, but now Monday August 3, 2015 I just called to check in and yep you guessed it, the transmission needs to come out. I'm just really lucky that I was close to the dealer when it failed, because I had a long trip planned for the coming weekend and that would have been horrible to happen while on vacation.

So much for buying a new vehicle to have something reliable. Based on the previous complaints, I'm not too hopeful about this vehicle, so I'll definitely be keeping good records so that I can document problems and elevate the issue if I need to.

Update from Oct 5, 2015: I have put approximately a little under 2k miles on the new transmission. It already has problems. It clunks into the low gears causing significant jerking when slowing down and hesitates to take off and speed up. I took it to the dealer and they unfortunately have not addressed the issued. Second transmission and less than 7k miles and it runs horribly. I called the corporate complaints line to report the issues because the local dealer was not at all helpful and am escalating the issue with their customer satisfaction team to see if I can either have it replaced or have them buy it back. I don't want an unreliable vehicle, that's why I bought a new one in the first place... I wouldn't buy these until they figure out their transmission issues.

Well, I unfortunately have one of these jams as well. Mine started back when the recall to reprogram the transmission, they called it R01, I call it bullshit.

On Saturday the 18th of Juy 2015, going down a very short hill the Jeep seemed to jump out of gear, right after that there was a loud clunk like I had put the car in park doing 30 miles per hour. After that, engine light came on. Pushed gas pedal, no power. Managed to get back home with very little throttle. The RPMs were stuck at 4000. There wasn't this problem till they supposedly did the recall?

So had towed to the dealer where we bought it, which is Littleton NH, we live in Milton VT, 91 miles away, sucks, the service tech called me and said the Jeep was operating fine and had power, what? Called today to see what they found, the tech said they haven't looked at it yet as I didn't make a appointment, I told him that it was kind of hard to make a appointment when I had no idea this was going to happen.

If someone that might read this have a address, phone number, e-mail address for a Chrysler complaint and case number I would appreciate it. 6 days and counting since the Jeep went down. A very unsatisfied customer.

From the beginning I noticed my car would jerk back after coming to a stop and pressing on the gas. It would shift funny and the on/off start function was acting weird from the beginning. I just thought it needed broken in. It wasn't until two months after having my car (<3,000 miles) when I was turning at a busy intersection outside of DC when my car engine shut off and I was coasting. I pressed the gas but the car went nowhere. After a few seconds it sped up to 50mph.

Three days later, I was on the highway (four hours from home) when the malfunction indicator light illuminated and the RPM's were over 5,000 when slowing down to 35 mph. I had to pull over because it wasn't safe to drive on the highway. I ended up "manually" shifting the entire 4 hours home because the automatic transmission wasn't functioning properly and was not shifting.

Took it into the dealership and they performed the software update. They insisted it was fixed, but when they drove it again the car broke down and it immediately went back to the dealership and the transmission was replaced. Picked my car up yesterday and it still seems to not shift right and jerk back when pressing the gas after coming to a stop.

I'm not convinced my car is fixed. I can't believe I've had this many issues when I've only had the car for 3 months. I'll never buy a Jeep again.

We had only had the vehicle for 17 days, I was on my way to work which includes interstate driving and ran into a very heavy rainstorm, Immediately after that the check engine light came on and then the transmission would not shift when I was on the interstate. It took 18 days to get it back not due to dealer but because Chrysler wouldn't say they could replace the transmission, even though that was the only fix and then the new transmission has to be sent from the factory. The dealer was very helpful and loaned me a vehicle free for the duration but it was still a PIA since we had bought a new vehicle and paid cash for it.

Cherokee Latitude V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,570 miles

2,570 miles on it. My wife who was coming home from work pulled into the driveway. Where it displayed an error "service transmission". It would not go forward all the way into driveway, and it rolled backward into the street. I got in it, shut it off and restarted it a few minutes later, transmission then worked but had a check engine light on and then when I drove it to the dealer, it did not shift smoothly.

Picked up on Tuesday Oct 7th had approximately 100 miles added, for test driving I assume? I received back from service dept., Recall paperwork for this problem and was told transmission was reflashed under this recall. When I ask if it was fixed I was told it now "meets specs"

Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,998 miles

I purchased this 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6 engine. I was so excited about my purchase. After 2 months of owning the vehicle with 3998 miles, I was driving home from work and noticed the check engine light on. As I drive straight to the dealer and come to a stop my Stop/Start telltale light illuminates stating stop/start function needs to be serviced.

I get to dealer and they hook my vehicle up to diagnostic computer, 4 hours later they tell me that transmission codes are coming up as well as some software updates. They go on to do the updates hoping it will fix the check engine light, but it doesn't. They tell me I need to bring my vehicle in 5 days later for an appointment with their transmission technician. They state the car is ok to drive as long as the check engine light isn't blinking.

As I drive for those 5 days my car does fine when taking off and driving but as I brake and hit 20mph my transmission rpms up to 3,000 and car is trying to take off out from under me causing me to basically slam on the brake. I finally get it to the dealer for the appointment and transmission technician can't find anything wrong but does experience my issues. He has to contact the star group at Chrysler to see how to proceed because he can't find anything wrong with the transmission. Chrysler informs him to replace the transmission.

It has now been 12 days my car has sat up at the dealer and no ETA for my transmission to even get to the dealer. After 11 days and much complaining car dealer finally got me in a decent rental car, after driving a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis loaner car from the service department, that wouldn't want to start and dash board lights not working.

I have contacted Jeep about my concern with their product and my safety issues. I have also contacted the dealer trying to get out of this vehicle and into something more reliable. The dealership is treating me like someone off the street that just wants a new vehicle. The dealer only wants to give Kelly Blue Book trade in value and put the negative equity on to the cost of another vehicle. The vehicle they sold me is defective and unsafe and I simply want to return it. I have lost the peace of mind you should have with a major investment of a new vehicle. I don't think its too hard to ask for dependability and safety. When I purchased this vehicle I completely expected dependable, trouble free transportation.

My car is so new it hasn't even had its first oil change and I am having to deal with an issue such as this. I have lost my faith in this vehicle and whenever I do finally get it back I will not feel secure in it and will always be on edge waiting for it to leave me stranded. This has been very time consuming issue and has caused a lot of mental anguish and emotional stress with no end in sight.

Update from Aug 17, 2015: Dealer called this past Friday, after Jeep sat at dealer for 16 days, transmission finally replaced. Drove off lot and traded it in for another vehicle. I won't be driving any Chrysler products ever again.

Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 500,000 miles

I am so surprised about my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude when there were air bag recalls, now there is check engine lights going on due to a bad transmission- the problem was the engine kept the RPM's at 3k and wouldn't kick down until I turned it off and restarted the engine.

The dealer said that they couldn't re-enact the problem- the manufacturer told the dealer to replace the transmission. This is not what I bargained for- I read up on Jeep transmissions and they can freeze up and flip over...not good.

Calling Chrysler Corp to get deal unraveled and Jeep returned...still waiting for corporate as it now is ten days and no call back!!!!!

My attorney to get involved in class action law suit next
