CarComplaints.com Notes: Whenever a new product is introduced, there's bound to be some problems. And man oh man, does the 2006 Commander have some problems.

It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.

Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

Jeep Commander stalling! while driving at low speeds I have experienced several stall outs. I have taken it back in for service several times for this problem with no resolution (the latest being an updating the flash). These stall out are unpredictable which make them that much more dangerous.

*while driving down a level highway at about 70 mph, while using cruise, the rpms jumped drastically as if going into overdrive. Although it shifted for whatever reason, as I stated it was flat ground, there was no pick up speed. **however, at other times I have had the 2006 Jeep Commander accelerate for no reason. I was not pushing on the gas and it has happened while in cruise. ** have also experienced sputtering mostly at about 40 mph but it has happened at speeds around 70 mph on the highway. Thankfully traffic has been clear enough to regain proper control. No pattern. I took it to the dealer after they told me to look for a pattern and there wasn't one. There were no error codes and the "situation could not be duplicated". not real pleased. I am listing each type of failure separately on this site. I am also simply using a basic date because it has happened multiple times. When I picked up the Jeep I was told it's a big motor and people just aren't used to driving them. My husband was raised on a farm, so he knows "big motors". not acceptable. It feels very unsafe.

While driving my 2006 Jeep Commander (5.7L hemi engine) at approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled, forcing me to pull over to the side of the road. Once stopped, the vehicle did restart, but after four days of diagnosing the problem, the dealership is unable to identify the source of the problem.

On a number of occasions while driving my 2006 Jeep Commander limited's engine has shut off. The power steering goes out, the engine cuts off and you are just sitting there. This is incredibly dangerous as there is always traffic and you don't have the steering to easily move your car to a safe place. This needs to be addressed immediately by Chrysler.

2007 Jeep Commander, V8 engine.....this vehicle has stalled numerous times since I purchased new 02/2006. It started about 3 months after purchase and is continuing to stall to the point that I will not allow my teenager daughter to drive the vehicle. My dealership (I have purchased 6 new Chrysler vehicles over past 16 years) says they have no idea how to fix, that I will have to wait on Chrysler to recall if there is a problem. Someone is going to get killed in this vehicle, is that what it takes to get someone to realize there is a problem? they suggested that I called and complain to you as well as Chrysler.....

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander, I have had this vehicle since November 2005. I have taken this vehicle to the dealer on different occasion due to my car stalling. It isn't until my steering wheel locks and I can't push the gas peddle that I realize I have no power. My dash lights don't come on, my radio doesn't go off. I just stall... the dealer says " the computer doesn't register the cut off", and they can't find the problem. So I have this car that I never know when it will die....I was going to a valentine party and on my way there my car cut off twice within a minute and half and neither showed up on the my vehicles computer, the person that was behind me at the time got a little road rage and sped around me with the finger. I have an 8 year old daughter and I would like to have my case investigated. As I submit this my car is in the shop now.

Re: PE07-009 -- 2006 Jeep Commander 4.7L V8 -- automatic stalled every time backed out of garage and on other slight inclines at slow speeds. Had the car for 6 days on a rental from enterprise. Investigator chris lash may want to query enterprise about the performance of the Commanders in their fleet -- quick way to capture feedback on a large number of cars. Moreover, enterprise seems to know there is a problem because they are very willing to sell these cars out of the fleet program well in advance of the vehicle meeting minimum mileage limits usually observed. We were considering buying a car from them until we discovered on the web-blogs that many customers have experienced similar stalling incidents.

I bought a 2006 Jeep Commander with a 5.7L hemi in Dec. Of 2006. I now have roughly 3000 miles on it and it's stalls daily. Sometimes two-times a day. Whether I am on a highway exit ramp, at a stop light or slowing down this vehicle randomly shuts off. It's seems to only happen when slowing down and right after I come to a complete stop. This problem began about a week and a half after I bought the vehicle. I have noticed lot's of reports online about this same problem. I want this problem fixed or I want a different vehicle. I have almost been in 7 major crashes involving busy intersections cause of this stall problem. My wife refuses to ride in the vehicle and I hate driving it now.

The car goes completely dead while being driven. Electrical, steering, brakes, everything goes out. The car is moving when this happens. It has never quit running while stopped, which would not be as dangerous. Have to struggle to control the car and bring it to a stop, while traffic is coming at me from all sides. When I put it in park and start it up, it runs fine. This has happened 9 times in less than a year. It's potentially deadly to the driver and passengers in the car, and any other cars or pedestrians in the vicinity. I've complained many times but the service dept. Discouraged me from bringing it in since it didn't happen every time I drove the car, but finally got so bad I took it in. Two times they could not find out what the problem is. Now the car has a monitor hooked up to it to record any fault codes. However, I will not drive the car. It is parked in the driveway and I am driving my daughter's car. We have filed a lemon law complaint and will pursue vigorously for the car to be repurchased so I can buy a different car that doesn't put me and my family in harm's way.

(1) car is off, but air conditioner, or blower, is turned on (2) car starts, engine light, or gas gauge doesn't come on, it starts, you drive a bit, it makes noise(s) then stalls (3) turned car off after it rolls to a stop. When I turn the air conditioner, or blower to the off position I seem to not have as many stalls, if not any. When the dealership looks at it when the engine light is off they cannot see any error codes. When the engine light is on who is near a dealer to see the freaking' error codes"!?!"!

2006 Jeep Commander - purchased new in 02/2006....vehicle continues to stall (motor die completely) when driving at slow speeds, ie pulling out from red lights or turning into driveways, etc. I have reported to dealership several times without any luck, called today but they said they do not know what it is and until Jeep/Chrysler lets them know how to fix it there is nothing they can do. This is very dangerous and someone is going to get hurt or killed by this vehicle.
