CarComplaints.com Notes: Kia really changed the design of the Sorento in the 2011 model year. Instead of a truck-like body-on-frame more capable of offroad adventures, the newest Sorento is a unibody construction and is much more crossover than sport utility. The changes brought a whole slew of problems, including a frustrating problem where the door that won’t open. Is it too late to go back?

Sorento EX 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 136,000 miles

My wife has experienced several incidences of the full complement of warning lights coming on for no apparent reason. I'll have to look into it to see what I can find as far as solutions to the problem, but I see by other posts that this malfunction is being experienced by others. Electrical problems are a huge pain because repairs are often very expensive. If this is a design issue Kia ought to man-up and fix it. Had I known about some of the problems with the 2011 Sorento I don't think I would have bought it. Unfortunately, I didn't come across Car Complaints until after I purchased it. Live and learn.

Sorento LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,000 miles

less than 100,000 miles warning lights come on indicating abs, tcs, esc, hac & parking brake malfunction. notifed dealer service dept. after holidays, & scheduled appt. arrived for appt. and now mileage was past 100,000. After being told this problem was due to coating breakdown on abs wireing and they were aware of the problem, it would not be coverd for mileage was past 100,000. I had just purchased a 2017 kia sorento 1 week before getting this news. Disappointed to say the least, will i ever buy another or recomend kia, don't think so.

THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DO NOT WORK

I have complained about this problem since I first noticed the vehicle, but it has NEVER been fixed, so I NEVER said anything because I was able to get through it by not really noticing, but IT IS A HAZARD.

Sorento

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

The ABS warning, downhill brake control, electronic stability control indicator and 4WD auto lock lights all illuminated. The car was operating normally. Braking is fine and pushing the assist and slip buttons have no change on braking.

Speedometer needle bounces after first turning on while still parked.

Turn signals randomly come on.

Stopped at a Kia dealer and they brushed off the complaints.
