The battery is drained after sitting for 3 or 4 days. replaced the battery and it still didn't help. The dealership could not find the problem. After researching on the internet, I found others with similar issue. Some have reported a faulty sensor in the doors or the rear hatch. I have had my neighbor give me a boost so I could go to work.

I also have contacted KIA roadside assistance to boost me so I could go to work. I am now retired and it is really bad since I don't drive everyday. My son has had to boost me so I could go to appointments. I have also had others boost me as well. My dear husband bought this car for me shortly before he passed. I knew I would be retiring soon and I wanted a new vehicle I could depend on.

I should have kept my previous vehicle. No problems at all. I bought the car in Morgantown,WV, but I moved back to KY since my husband passed away. I am now trying to deal with Bruce Walters KIA in Pikeville, KY. I want to take the car to them for a diagnosis, but they tell me they are unable to find the problem since they have dealt with this before with no resolution. They also will not provide a loaner vehicle and I cannot afford to rent a car for at least week or probably longer.

I contacted KIA headquarters in Irvine, CA. They were no help at all. I think we should try to start a class-action suit. As much as new cars cost, we should not have to put up with this. I have to start my car at least every other day to keep the battery charged. I don't know what else to do. Maybe contact the State Attorney General.

Update from Oct 12, 2019: Found a Master Kia Technician in KY that diagnosed the problem. He replaced the junction box and all is well. This part controls all the electrical functions on the car.

Sorento Limited V6

A few months ago my wife's Kia Sorento would not start while sitting in our garage. The battery was so completely drained that nothing inside the car would turn on either (the best part is that the trunk cannot be opened, period, since it's a power lift trunk when this happens). The first time I just simply jump started her car with mine, thinking nothing of it.

Then her car died again within a few days, so we called the dealership to take a look at it. The first time we brought it in, their diagnosis of the problem was that the battery just needed to be fully charged, so they charged the battery for us and gave it back to us.

After a few weeks, the battery was again dead on her car, so I jumped it and drove it back to the dealership. They claimed that the battery tested fine and nothing was abnormally draining the battery, and the problem was that my wife wasn't driving the car often enough or long enough (she drives it at least once a week for about 20 to 30 minutes at a time). Their excuse was that the car needed more time to recharge itself between starts and because it's equipped with a lot of electronics, it needs even more time (more time than 20 minutes???)

We picked up the car from the dealership on a Friday night, it was parked all Saturday, and was completely dead Sunday morning. At least this last occurrence forced the dealership to admit that they have no idea how to diagnosis the problem, or fix it.

Sorento EX 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,000 miles

The dead battery issue started shortly after purchasing the vehicle. If the car sits for about a week, the battery is completely drained. We've had the car into the dealership a total of 7 times, with no cure for the problem. Their cure is to buy a trickle charger and plug it in after each use or install a switch that shuts off the electronics, and flip the switch after each use. After the last time in, the general manager basically said tuff sh*t.They have not heard the last from us. The next time it happens were going to call KIA roadside to come pick up the car and take it to the dealership. It will be plastered with lemons and a few choice words about the dealer and KIA. If anyone else has had this problem, please let us know on Carcomplaints.com. Wyoming does have a lemon law which we are going to pursue with the Wyoming Attorney Generals office after we've filed a formal complaint with KIA USA headquarters.
