CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data from the earlier model years in this 2nd generation Nissan Versa.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

My car shut off while I was stopped at a stop sign. The radio and air were still on. The car would not move. In order for me to move the vehicle, I had to put it into park, turn the ignition switch to off and turn the ignition back to on. Basically turn it all the way off and restart the vehicle.

I was driving down the highway, in traffic, 30 - 35 mph, outside temp 88 degrees, ac was on, full gas tank, highway I-35 downtown dallas in the middle of rush hour, the car abruptly stopped while driving and turned off. The steering wheel did not respond, brakes did not respond, all warning lights came on, the car coasted to a stop. I put the car in park, waited 10 seconds, cranked, gassed it and it started back up. I took the car to O'riely's auto parts in cedar hill 30 min. Later to run a diagnostic test which came back that the battery, starter, alternator were functioning normally.

I was completely stopped about to pull out of a parking lot and as I turned onto a side road and got up to about 5-10 mph my car jerked twice and completely stopped and stalled and it wouldn't rev up or do anything. The lights and everything was on but the car wouldn't move. I had to completely turn the car off in the middle of the road and back on before it would go again.

I bought this Versa brand new at the dealership. After a year from the purchase date the dealer went out of business and was bought out. The first year I had it I came in often with transmission problems, but was told it was nothing and to give it more gas when it acted like it was having troubles. Everytime I went for an oil change, even my first oil change, they would come back with 600 dollars worth of filters or the brake fluid needed to be changed. I quit going there for my car, because of the constant pressure to spend money on issues I wasnt having. They never wanted to look at the transmission or anything. Now after 65K the transmission has been replaced, my running taillights do not work, some unknown electrical issue, and the car just turns off on it's own with no warning. Before the tranny went out I was driving 70 mph down the interstate and the car shut off with no warning nearly causing an accident with a semi, the dealer does not want to fix that problem bc it can not replicated. That's their answer to any problem that's not expensive or quick. If it can not be replicated then your lying as I have been told. I was also told that all Versa's sold would need a new tranny after 40K. Now Nissan North America nor the dealer wants to pay for their mistakes. I need help getting this resolved soon.

2015 Nissan Versa sv. Consumer writes in regards to several design defects on vehicle. The consumer stated the electronic key hold was extremely sensitive causing the trunk lid to open inadvertently. The gas pedal seems to stick causing the engine to rev. The vehicle has an intense wobble causing a nauseating sensation. The chrome around the speedometer and dashboard reflection causes a visibility issue. The consumer would inadvertently leave the key the ignition and manually lock the door, thus locking the key in the car. The consumer suggested an alarm for such occasions. The vehicle has low frequency constant humming frequency bass like droning noise that's centered in the middle of the driver's seat.

While driving during the day (it was over 95 degrees), all of sudden all the warning lights came on, the brake pedal locked up, the gas pedal didn't work, and the power steering wasn't working. I was able to pull it over. I turned it off and on twice, and everything was working fine. I'm taking it to the dealer to be checked out (the next day).

Our Nissan Versa has had to have its transmission replaced at 24,711 miles. While driving to work, the car completely died while I was driving in traffic. The transmission was replaced at the Nissan dealership. Now at 33, xxx miles it sounds like it is going bad again. When we purchased the vehicle from the Nissan dealership, it was a certified used vehicle with 87 miles on it. The electrical in the car is also having problems. Our stereo display does not always work and the usb and charge ports are also not up to standard.

While driving on the freeway, my car all of a sudden stalled to the point where I could not steer, press on the gas or the brake. I had to turn my car completely off and back on in the middle of the freeway in order for the car to work again. This happened three times in a span of a mile before I was finally able to get over to the shoulder of the freeway. I felt unsafe in my vehicle due to the fact that I was on the freeway in traffic and could not move my own car.
