CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2003 Nissan Xterra doesn't seem to have any problem trends. The only thing prospective owners should be aware of are the less-than-perfect (but acceptable) crash test ratings.
There are a very few transmission complaints, but nothing like the huge defect that shows up starting in with the 2005 model year.

I took my truck in for an oil change and was informed that my transmission needs to be replaced. I was told by two different mechanics that the problem is due to the radiator fluid leaking and mixing in with the transmission fluid. This causes the transmission to break down. This is a Nissan manufacturing issue and is not a normal maintenance issue. I have read that many others have had the exact same issue. Nissan needs to be responsible for these repairs.
