Later found out that this radiator was corroded severely because it hadn't been flushed in many years before I even had the car. Turns out that it blew out the seals when the head gaskets pumped exhaust into the radiator after I had it flushed causing a total overheat in less than one mile... white smoke and all. KAPOW! Right on the highway.
