I found out that all '01 to '04 Camry's need a new part on the steering shaft. Which can not just be replaced, you have to replace the ENTIRE steering column! Oh and don't just order a used one, they don't have the right part. (Wish the 2 mechanics and the dealership I called would have told me about this problem!) You will have to get a brand new one from the dealer and it will most likely cost around $800 or more!!!! Not sure if the dealer will pay for it I guess I will find that put tomorrow! Needless to say after only ever owning Toyotas.....I will not be buying one again!
I have a 2002 Toyota Camry. It has 100,000 miles. It started with pulling to the left. Then it started making a bad clunk sound when you turn steering wheel. Now it always make noise and always pulls to the left. Got the alignment done and new tires put on and balanced. Still the problem is getting worse. I always liked Toyota. I don't think I will buy another Toyota again. They seem like they don't want to help you out. If anyone knows if this can be fixed please post. I bought it to the dealer and they cant find an issue. they say it is normal for this car to do that. No car should be doing this normally. This is very angering. If you are thinking about buying Toyota stay away. Buy American. They will take care of you.
This car has pulled to the left since it was new. After 3 sets of tires, 2 alignments, and no help from the dealership or the manufacturer, I do not know what else to do. I like the car, except for this problem. On a trip, I become very fatigued trying to keep the car straight. Just release the steering wheel for a split-second, and the car will dart to the left. Very dangerous.
