problem #4

Dec 142018

Camry LE 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I was pulling into a parking spot at the local library and all of a sudden the car surged. It went over a raised walkway into an adjacent parking lot. It stopped for a couple seconds and then started again. Over another curb, grazed the front fender of a parked pickup truck and back into the street. Approximately it went another 50ft. and stopped. My foot was on the brake pedal and the car would not stop. Very scary incident but no one was injured. The car is in for repairs. I will update the outcome when I have more information.

Camry SD 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,524 miles

On May 20, 2015 Priscilla Curda was pulling into own driveway in the 2011 Toyota Camry and stopped. Then the car accelerated very suddenly and fortunately I was able to step onto brake and stop.

On May 22, my husband, Leo, and I were stopped at a traffic light and suddenly the car accelerated and luckily my husband was able to quickly apply the brakes. this could have been very dangerous, but no one was in front of us at the traffic light.

As far as we could determine, we could offer no explanation as to why this happened.

This is a very dangerous situation and we know longer feel safe driving the car. We will contact Customer Service at the Ira Toyota Dealership in Danvers, MA on.Andover Street.

problem #2

Dec 112010

Camry

  • Automatic transmission
  • 800 miles

I was idling forward into a parking lot, and the accelerator jammed to the floor and the car surged forward. I jammed on the breaks and turned off the engine. We could have killed someone. The car went from idling forward to floor-boarded.

When I got home I realized that Toyota was covering up the problem, and saying that it was driver error. I could have killed someone with my car. Now it's almost 2 weeks later and I have a rental car that I am paying for. I have reported it to national.

I don't trust Toyota. They are doing a "smart" evaluation, and I can go to arbitration. I don't ever want to drive that car again, and even if they "find out what it is" I don't feel safe in that car.

I have called my attorney, but getting legal advice is expensive. What I want is to turn in my Toyota and get my money back. The car is only 2 months old and I never want to drive it again. I have no confidence that even if they say they have fixed it that they have. Also, I put nothing down on the car, and I have a 5-year no interest loan. I am not even sure it if is legal to stop my car payments.

Has anyone had this experience, and how to return their Camry after such a life-threatening defect. I have been told by one car salesman that Toyota "evaluates" the cause, then says it is your error. My car cost me $24K two months ago, and I heard that they say "It's not a new car!" so maybe they will buy it back from me for $15K. This is robbery. I don't trust them and I can't believe they would be treating their customers so badly. Please share your experience and give me advice. I had a passenger (colleague) in the car and she was as terrified as I was. Literally, we went from idling forward to charging right toward a parked car in front of us.

service manager claims, there is no known fix for this problem. Claims it will break in and adjust to my driving habits... BULLSHIT!!!!! It also accelerates on its own when A/C compressor needs more power....
