My 2019 Highlander I bought brand new with 11 mi on it and it had a surging problem as if it was running out of fuel. I had the dealership check it out a few times and they told me everything was okay. I was reluctant to drive it and put very few miles on it because it acted up on me and I didn't trust it. The dealership kept reassuring me that it was okay and this is normal. I didn't find out until sometime in December-January 2021 that there was a fuel pump recall that came out and a class action lawsuit associated with a bad fuel pump. The dealership then checked out my car and confirmed what my complaint was. They fixed the wiring on my car but that made the problems worse and caused the notice of issues. They said there was a fuel pump recall but they did not have a recall kit to put in my car and to continue driving my car the way it was.

The surging became so bad that it became unpredictable when it was still or when the surging would occur and it acted like it was running out of gas. What is really crazy about the whole thing is that the dealership told me to drive the car the way it was because a recall fuel pump kit was not available yet to put into my car. I feel like a test pilot or guinea pig and I feel that it is not safe to drive the car the way it is. /

Unfortunately or fortunately the transmission exploded in leaks, with lots of transmission fluid, and kept the car from driving and moving. I showed the dealer the recall and class action lawsuit and the dealership took me more seriously as to my complaint about this unsafe car. I felt that they were always trying to blame it on me that I somehow destroyed my own car with 2,600 mi on it. It really makes me mad that the dealership would not try and resolve my complaint and fix the problem that is obvious to see if you drive it. The dealership never took my complaint seriously or just simply failed to address the problem because they knew there was a common defect with this car. I just don't trust this car anymore and afraid to drive it. I paid $40,000 cash for this car and they just never made it right for me to drive it safely.
