Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

I am not in pocession of this vehicle any longer...but I did trade it on a Ford Expedition with Firestone wilderness tires. They are identical in shape form and function!!!! furthermore I did have a tire failure with the Firestone Wilderness AT type tires on my 1998 Ford Explorer. I ran over a tractor trailer mud flap laying very flat in the road, and my right rear Firestone Wilderness AT tire blew out for no apparent reason.( dot number: Tire size: 235/75/15 )

These tires are fality. They have 40000 miles on them and have been rotated every 5000 miles. The tires have been making a whooping sound for a long time. It sounds like the tirers are seperating from the tread. I have been to the Ford dealer in niles mi, and the firerstone Corp. Store in South bend Indiana. Expert tire phone # 219-288-7800. They agree that there is a major prom with the tires. However, they can not replace them. They said that there not on the recall. I need heip. Please. I think the replacement cost is over $500. I want to file a formal complant that these tires need to also be on the recall list.( dot number: W2cu1px018 tire size: P255/70R16 )

My Explorer has ~22,000 miles on it. All four tires are severely cracking where the tread joins the tire. The tires have been well maintained and rotated at proper intervals. I have not done any off road driving with my vehicle. All the miles have been normal city and highway driving. With the recent recall of the Firestone wilderness 15 inch tires, I am concerned that the same structural failure is present in my 16 inch tires. The cracking involves the entire tire. It seems that the tread could just break free at any time. I am asking for your help in seeing to it that all sizes of the Firestone tires are recalled. I would be more than happy to send photos of my tires and the cracking that has taking place on them. Thanks for your time and help.( dot number: Tire size: 255/70/R16 )

I lost one tire the treads were just coming off. Firestone said it was a road hazard.my tires are not on the recall. When I had a independent Firestone dealer look at my other tires " he said they look vary dry rotted all around the tread area, and said he wished he could replace them" this all happened a couple of months ago when I called Firestone about the problem they new what was going on they even hired people off the streets who had no prier tire experience they told me my tires are safe with out even looking at them. Please save some lives and make them recall the rest of their defective tires. How many more people have to die for profits?( dot number: Tire size: P235/75R15 )

I had replaced 3 Wilderness AT tires with 3 Wilderness AT tires by the time the 3rd one blew out and this time I ended up in a large ditch after rolling 1 and 1/half times. I complained to Firestone and Ford both since I bought the new tires at both places. They blamed each other. I tried to tell them that the tires were not wearing right, very different than any other tires I've ever owned, but they would not listen to me, and now its too late!!!!!( dot number: Tire size: 23575R15 )

Vehicle was taken to a Firestone dealership who had found cracks on the side of the tire, and also inside the tread. Rubber had just began to start peeling. Dealership would only prorate the tires and replace it after 3-5 weeks due to none were in stock. Tire is a P255/70R16 Firestone Wilderness AT. The approximate tire mileage is 22000. Tires were the original tires purchased with vehicle. Vehicle is a 1998 Ford truck Explorer.

My accident occurred at approximately 7:00 P.M. on 24 July 2000 as I was driving to my residence located at [xxx], in my 1998 Ford eddie bauer Explorer. I was travelling East on highway 190 in the right hand lane at 60 mph, when a car pulled in front of the truck I was following. The truck brake causing me to brake. Upon braking, both tires on the left hand side of the vehicle exploded causing me to go into a tail spin. I did everything possible to keep the vehicle on the road without hitting anyone else. Fortunately, I did not hit another vehicle or hurt anyone else. My vehicle ended up rolling over four times and ended up facing in the opposite direction on the median. Although the vehicle was completely totaled, I was fortunate enough not to have suffered life threatening injuries. The police, paramedics, and firemen arriving on the scene could not believe that I was alive. The vehicle had to be cut to get me out. There were witnesses to this accident who provided statements to the police. There was no citation issued. My right hand was badly cut, I had severed an artery and muscle, and received 12 stitches. My left ear was cut and had to be stitched. The left side of my body, to include my head, was badly bruised. This accident has had a serious physiological effect on me. It took two weeks for me to begin driving again. Usaa, my insurance company, informed us, as a result of their investigation, that they had flagged my vehicle because the tires were the Firestone tires being recalled and were found at fault for causing my accident. Since purchasing my vehicle brand new in May 1998, it has been regularly serviced in accordance with the service manual, by cove Ford in copperas cove, Texas. Wheels have also been rotated on a regular basis. At no time was I informed that my tires were unsafe or were the cause of previous accidents. Had I of been informed by the Ford Motor Company of possible tires. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I have had vehicle for a little over a year. The tires were original to the vehicle. I have had two flats, one of which was a complete tire failure. The tire cracked all the way down to the sidewall. Luckily the SUV was being stopped when it happened. I now have a third of the original four that has a small spot where the steel belt is showing through. I have replaced all four tires with Goodyear in light of the history of the tires and the recent information that has been presented concerning these tires. I definitely feel other sizes should be recalled. These tires are a menace. I'm so lucky that my failures happened in the circumstances that they did or I or my family might not be here today.( dot number: Vncu ipx tire size: P255 70R16 )

Heard flapping noise coming from rt rear tire on freeway--by the time I pulled off the road noise had stopped and when I looked at tire it appeared normal. Drove for 3 more hours on highway until it blew out. Nothing left of tire--on rim. Ford road assistence sent someone to change it. Was in desert by myself for about 2 hours. When this also hapened to my brother I immedialtely went out and changed all 4 tires. When I call Firestone they have no idea what's going on. I changed the tires right before the recall. I am now out $630 for tires and still have not replaced the spare. Help!!!( dot number: Vdhl tire size: P235/tsr15 )

My 1998 Ford Explorer ([xxx]) came equipped with the wilderness tires. During the fall of 1998, I experienced 4 tire repairs and in the early part of 1999, 2 more tire repairs and two failures (note: Four trips to Arizona, from Colorado, had occurred). The two failures occurred later during travel in 1999, one on I-40 outside albuquerque, nm (enroute to AZ at approx 62 mph, a separation at the sidewall/tread area) and the other in phoenix, AZ found as a leaking tire but identified, upon breakdown, as a non-repairable sidewall/thread separation at the thread line). Each failure was replaced with Firestone Wilderness AT tires. However, I lost confidence in the Firestone tires and on May 6 1999 I replaced the four installed tires with Michelin ltx (ms) tires, retaining the spare as an original Firestone.( dot number: Vd tire size: 235/75R/15 ). information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Both the Ford dealer and tire dealer indicated that the defect was caused by a road hazzard. However, there was no damage to the rim. The bead or bubble extended from the rim to the tread and was about two inches wide and about 3/4" high. I replaced the tire with the spare and used the defective tire as the spare. During my last servicing, it was noted that the spare was flat. No reason was given by the dealer. This defect has made the tires suspect and made my wife very nervous about driving the vehicle. This size should be included in the recall.( dot number: Tire size: P255/70R16 )
