My vehicle is a 2000 Explorer Limited 5L V8 AWD w/ 100,000 miles at the time I did this repair. Go to this website:
http://www.shareamemory.com/radio/paypal_donation.htm#Save%20My%20Sanity%20Swap%20Board
He has two methods:
"how to instructions" for $20.00 (need to be good at soildering)
or
"board swap program for $89.00
I opted for the board swap program, never been happier, 30,000 miles and later still working like new. AWESOME!
For the "Save My Sanity" Swap Program, you submit $104.99 through PayPal or you can mail a check (the extra $20 is used as a deposit for your old board), a tested, working, reconditioned board with all the modifications made will be sent to you. You will be given access to a special location of the radio repair web site that has detailed pictures on how to go about swapping your board. Once you get the board, you swap out your board with the one sent. You then return your board. Once your board is received, you'll get refunded $20... making your cost only $84.99.

Explorer Eddie Bauer V6
Display on CD player went blank shortly after I had a CD changer installed. I was told the entire unit needed to be replaced and the dealer charged 400 to 600 plus installation for an outdated model. That was the only way to keep my CD changer, the steering wheel controls and rear inputs. I ended up buying a better receiver and 4 better speakers for about 800 and the sound is way better but the steering wheel and rear controls/inputs are useless because they ONLY work with the one factory model.
