CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

This car is so fragile! The plastic clips on the back of the back seats broke off the first time that I tried to use them. The car was less than a year old at that time. It didn't matter enough for me to have it fixed. The mirror flaps broke off when the car was still fairly new. I don't remember the exact year. The cover for the cup holder, in the back, broke off when my daughter bumped it with her backpack. Pretty much, if it is plastic, it is broken. The 2006 Equinox was not made with quality in mind.

The cheap flaps over the mirrors broke off. I'm very dissatisfied with the 2006 Chevy Equinox.

It happened once shortly after I purchased my brand new vehicle (less than a year old and the mirrors were hardly used), and the dealership replaced them the first time. But they would not fix them after it happened again...less than another year. They are very cheap and should be replaced without charge.
