what a f...-up GM. Selling a family type car with no rear child locks. This is down right despicable, dangerous, & irresponsible on GMs part. Putting children in danger is the disgusting. We did not even think about it till driving down the freeway when our 4 year old grand daughter opened the door. Our hearts stopped. You irresponsible designers should be convicted. I think they should own a car like this ,and then ask them if they would be comfortable taking a long trip with their grand kids. We used to take the door lock knobs off older cars which this is not an option on impalas. SHAME ON YOU GM!!!!!!!!

This really isn't a problem with the car itself; it's another problem with GM. I bought this car three years ago before I had any children. I didn't discover that they never installed what every other car manufacturer considers standard until two years ago when I was babysitting someone else's child. I know have a small child and I will have to sell this car or break the back door handles so that I don't have to worry about my child falling out of the car going down the highway. Thank you GM for being so considerate of American families by putting in the three child latch systems in the backseat but not forking over the extra $5 to install child safety locks on the doors.

I bought another car several months after I purchased the 2005 Impala and had the salesman laugh at me when I asked if the car came with child safety locks. The salesman looked at me and asked if I had purchased a 2005 Chevrolet.
