I purchased this car in 2008 or 2009 for my son and the mileage was a little over 120,000. Well there has been one issue after another. I would have traded the car but my son loves the Impalas therefore he continued to stick money in it...Each mechanic charged him from 300 to 800 dollars to fix the same problem this car still has...in the winter each morning the car will not start security engine light comes on and when you return when the sun comes up the car will start right up...recently the mechanis are saying it is the ignition and the other say the key should have a chip and the other say its the factory alarm and I have to go to the dealership to disarm it....Well my son is out on deplyment for 10 months and I am not about to spend his type of money and there is no solution to the problem... There should have been a recall on this car years ago!!!!

It does not make any damn sense that these Impalas have so many problems with the security light.

It is very unfair how the dealerships won't even give you any way to fix it.

I have read some of the complaints on here that might work but, I'm afraid to try them because something else might go wrong with this crazy ass car. This is the only transportation my kids and I have - can't afford to get another one.

If I knew what I know now about this car, I would never have bought it.

When the security light would come on it meant (on my car) that one out of 4 times I started my car that it wouldn't start because of it. So you have to sit in the car no keys in the ignition nothing for 15+ min then try to start car again.

This has been going on for over a year! And the dealership has no idea how to fix it! We've tried disconnection the battery, messing with the starter, the electrical relays, nothing helps! And we definitely don't have money for new car.

All we can do right now is wait a while until the stupid light goes off and hope it will start.

I had my car under extended warranty, and in to be repaired 3 times, for a malfunction in the security system. When I returned for a 4th time, my warranty had run out, and I was charged $600.00 to do repairs at that time. Plus the cost of a rental car EVERYTIME. How convinent for the Chevy dealer! Now 2 years later, I am experiencing the same problem. Am I going to have to do the same repairs on this car, every two DAMN years?????? I want someone to tell me why this keeps happening, and who is going to fix my vehicle this time. Daryl Burke Chevrolet, in Fuquay-Varina should be the ones to do these repairs. They lied to me, and cost me many expenses, only to have it all happen again.

Long story short... On Friday the Security display started to appear on my Message Center. I read the manual and it talked about the PassLock system and what it does. I figured I would have my friends brother who is a lead mechanic at a GM dealership take a look at it this week and tell me what I need to do to fix it. Well today I had a tee time with my friend and when I went to pick him up I ran inside to let him know I was there, then we came back out to head to the course and the damn car won't start. The engine wouldn't turn over or anything and the Security display was just flashing. Well I missed my tee time and got charged for not being able to make it there. My friend's brother came over with his handheld computer from the dealership to diagnose it. It put out the error code for the PassLock system and I am going to need a new ignition switch. He said he has had dealt with many similar problems. He is going to do the work for me so I won't get killed with the Dealership mark-ups, but still this is a pain in the ass. I wish there would be a recall so I wouldn't have to worry about this problem in the future. Good luck to everyone that has and will experience this problem!
