One day I was driving home and the temperature gauge started rising into the red. Pulled over and turned the heat on full force, but I knew the car wasn't overheating because there was no smoke and no message center notification saying the car is overheating. Drove home with it like this. The next day the needle was hanging down. Haven't had this fixed because the message center will simply notify you if the car gets too hot.
I just got a 2005 Impala. Great car so far, but the temp gauge has been acting erratic since I had it. Sometimes it would stay at normal, then at times it would jump in the red for a sec and go down to normal. I had it checked out and the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with it. I did some research on this problem and it turns out this problem was common on the 2005 Impalas. Once a gauge(like the temp gauge goes erratic or stops working), then the other gauges will soon stop working too. The only way to fix this is the instrument cluster will have to be replaced. That's a expensive fix($500-$800).
I used this car for a driver's ed car. Taught students to look @ dashboard & notice things. They did!! Sometimes the temperature gauge worked but when it didn't, it showed absolutely nothing, or that it was running WAY too hot, or the gauge would go from nothing to hot, then back down. It was frustrating. I had to take it off as a driver training vehicle.
I am so frustrated, I have paid 348.00 trying to repair the temperature gauge, Sounded like thermostat sticking they say at garage,(not that) so complete flush, (not that) temperature sensor, (not that). Drove off with same problem. Garage said got to be electrical or cluster problem. Now I get on the internet and see about clusters bad in Chevy impala 2005 and few other years. I just have 70.000 miles on it, bought it used in very good shape, only 60 thousand miles and was older couple's car, always in garage and maintained well. My Husband passed last year, so on my own on this one. Chevy, what is up with this? What can I do without no more money for fix? I hope I do not ruin it driving it like this but have too now. STINKS
My 2005 Chevy Impala that I have had since it was new started having problems with the Temperature gauge. I could turn the key on and off until it worked it's way back to it's starting position. But now the gauge is turned all the way to the bottom and has been stuck there for over a year. I have to keep an eye on things so I know it's not overheating or low on antifreeze and it has become extremely annoying that I am constantly having to do this. Now I have two Chevy's that I have to do the same thing with. Driving me crazy!!!

I bought this car used, I had the water pump replaced, and thermostat, started driving and the temperature gauge went on Hot, so thinking the car was running hot, took it to get checked at Pep Boys, car was not running hot. I had Peltier Chevrolet look at it, and was told I need a new temperature gauge, which you cannot only buy that you have to buy the instrument panel. It is not cheap. Pain in the A??.
My Temperature Gauge is not working at all, It is BROKE period!!!! I would like to know why?! My care is a 05 impala, low mileage so this should not be, I'm afraid if it for some reason gets hot I won't be aware of it. HELP !!!!!???!!!
I don't know if it's covered under my warranty but I need to get it fixed before my warranty expires. I just got my car in Feb 2008 and the first thing that went wrong was the temperature gauge. The dials turns all the way around like a clock does. I didn't know if my car was running hot or not. I took it back to the dealership, paid $35 for them to only tell me it wasn't running hot. So now I have to have it replaced.
I always keep an eye on the temp gauge, and to have this not working is very concerning to me as I traveled 350 miles for my Mom's 90th Birthday over the past weekend. I must know that my car is safe and working properly for my security and safety. I am NOT HAPPY at the point as I just arrived home which is fortunate, and the gauge is reading near 250 degrees. I know this is not true, and to watch that needle rise and rise really worries me!
I REALLY DO LIKE MY CAR. BUT AS MUCH AS WE PAY FOR THESE CARS THE PROBLEMS SHOULD BE RARE OR FAR BETWEEN. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO TAKE OURS CARS IN FOR MAJOR SERVICE AFTER ONLY HAVING THEM FOR A SHORT TIME. AND YOU WONDER WHY MOST AMERICANS BY FOREIGN CARS, BY THE WAY,THAT WILL BE MY NEXT PURCHASE. IF THEY DIDN'T WORRY ABOUT PURCHASING AIRPLANES AND BIG BONUSES THEY COULD PUT MORE MONEY INTO MAKING GOOD DEPENDABLE TRANSPORTATION FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DEPEND ON QUALITY FROM OTHER COUNTRIES. IT'S HARD TO KEEP THE MONEY HERE AS IT IS. PLEASE KEEP IT REAL. WE WORK EXTRA HARD THESE DAYS, WE CANNOT AFFORD TO
