i bought a used 2005 impala back in 2010. after i put 3k miles on it, the transmission wouldn't shift into 2nd gear. i changed the fluid & filter. it still wouldn't shift when i started out. instead of shifting into 2nd gear, it acted like it shifted into neutral. i would pull over, put it in neutral and gun the gas. put it back in drive and it would shift fine for the rest of the day. until the next day. come to find out the shift solenoids have small screens on the bottom that clog up and need cleaned off and they will shift properly after that. unfortunately you have to remove all of the suspension on the drivers wheel, lower the enginge & trans down 6 inches to get the side cover off to get to those switches. if gm would have used a second plate, just to expose the row of switches, you wouldn't have to unassemble the suspension and remove the half shaft to get to those switches. mine is a 2005. as of this date, 11/2020 they still have not made that change. after a car get 15 or 20 yrs old, most of the time the car is not worth putting $2500.00 in a transmission repair or replacement. i guess generous motors is also generous with your wallet also when it comes to repairs.

transmission has been causing problems for years but it finally died in December 2017. Before, it you warmed it up it was kinda annoying but finally it got to the point where reverse and 1st gear work but now you can get through the gears once, maybe twice, until you come to a complete stop. Then it'll go into first gear, then neutral and that's as far as it'll go.

When the car gets up to 30 mph or whenever you take your foot off the gas it goes into neutral and it stays there; it does not go into 2nd gear.

Otherwise, it was a good car. We were happy with it.

At this point it's not work repairing.

I recently had this transmission in my vehicle start to shift hard from 1st to 2nd 2nd - 3rd and 3rd to 4th gear. This transmission would kind of a jerk when it would shift between gears. The problem has been happening for about 5 months. Just this last week all of a sudden the transmission began to slip very bad and when you would push on the gas the car engine would speed up but the vehicle would not.

I took it to a local transmission shop and I was quoted $1,400 to repair. The shop told me that the problem with the transmission is that the clutch parts are wearing out and causing it to slip. This is really a big problem for me as I have now owned this vehicle for 4 years and it put about sixty thousand miles on it since I purchased it. I have had no other issues with the vehicle except minor repairs such as the water pump the alternator the brakes the tires and of course in oil and filter change every 3000 to 4000 miles.

I really don't have the money to pay $1,400 to repair the transmission but at this time I have no other choice I am really irritated with GM for doing this and having such a crappy transmission. I have found a kit that is a complete overhaul and rebuild of the transmission for $350 and I am considering to purchase this and have someone help me to replace all of the gears clutches springs seals inside of the transmission also I need to replace the shift control solenoids as they are worn out which is why I was told it shift hard between gears.

About a year after buying my 2005 Impala...my tranny started acting funny. Would feel like it was slipping when you would go to pull out or feel like it wouldn't shift into drive from reverse. When it doesn't shift into drive from reverse like it should, it seems like there is a delay and when it does shift into drive, there is a hard jerk. I've read that many Impala's have this problem. My car has been looked at several times by GM and also other mechanics, however GM keeps saying there is no problem with the tranny. What can I do when this should have been a problem covered under warranty when I first had the car?
