No previous problems with steering until 3 days ago when I noticed a slight pull or movement when I turned the steering wheel. Today the power steering suddenly went out and won't come back on. Chevy obviously knows this is a recurring problem with the 2009 Chevy Malibu, they should step up and do the right thing by issuing a further recall.

Malibu LT 4 cylinder

  • Automatic transmission
  • 190,297 miles

I was driving on a major highway when power steering went out. Pulled over to side of road, cut off and back on , worked for a very short length of time. Did make it home safe but it still will still go out in less than a quarter of a mile. It is extra hard to turn. I notice other Malibu's are under a recall for this but this one is not. It only has a bulletin for either the year or millage. It is not only expensive to have fixed but is very dangerious.

Malibu LS 2.4L

THIS STARTED 3 YEARS AGO WENT TO DEALER WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING EXCEPT A BUNCH OF STUFF THAT WASNT EVEN BROKEN. WENT TO SEE ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT WHAT THEY SAID WASN'T TRUE EXCEPT I HAD TO CHANGE BALL JOINTS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT IN THE WHEELS. ANYWAY WHEN ON AUTO ROUTE I HAD TO FIGHT WITH THE STEERING TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT OR ELSE IT FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING OF THE ROAD.

NOW LATELY I AM DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR BEEPS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING AND I CANT EVEN TURN THE WHEELS. THANK GOD BOTH TIMES I WAS ON SMALL ROADS SO I TURNED OF THE CAR AND WHEN I STARTED IT,, IT WAS FINE. NOW I CALLED THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM AND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MALIBU 2009 ON THE DIRECTION OR STEERING AND THEY SAID THEY WILL LOOK INTO IT IF I HAVE TO PAY OR NOT.

THIS IS 3 YEARS LATER, THEN A FRONT BURNT LIGHT TO CHANGE IT WELL YOU HAVE TO DISMANTLE THE FRONT OF CAR JUST TO CHANGE A LIGHT. I HAD ANOTHER MALIBU PREVIOUS TO THIS ONE AND NEVER NEVER HAD THESE PROBLEMS. SINCE I GOT THIS CAR I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE ON AUTO ROUTES BECAUSE OF SPEED AND THE CAR DOESN'T HOLD THE ROAD PROPERLY. THIS IS THE LAST GM THAT I WILL PURCHASE.

You would think that they would actually tell you that there's a recall on your car when you have had GM's all your life. I call them they say it was recalled in 2014 uh Hello I never got anything about it so when I called to see they said they couldn't help me well I've been with the Chevy place since 2000 and guess what I'm done with them! Was going down interstate and my powering steering went out and about crashed getting off interstate! I'm very very very pissed!!!!

Malibu LTZ 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,800 miles

In the middle of driving off my driveway, the steering wheel locked up. The warning light said " ESC", and " Power steering". I tried really hard to drive it back and planned to drive my other car. I just turn it off, then re-started again. The problem went away. But I am really scared if it happens on the high way. I need to drive 15 miles on high way to go to work everyday. I am very worried.

Malibu LS 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

Would be driving as normal and then as I went to turn the Power Steering would stop working and the warning would come on. It would reset when I restarted the car for a few times to get me home but eventually gave out completely about 2 days after. Thank goodness for an extended warranty.

I have heard that a partial recall was issued for this problem, if I am having the same issue my car should automatically be included in the recall. This will be my last Chevy!
