Over the last 2 months, I have had the "shift to park" error message come up on my instrument panel, even though the vehicle is in park. At first, just a quick jiggle of the shifter did the trick. Now, it is a weekly, if not daily occurrence, where I have to turn the vehicle on and off and shift the transmission to see if the error can go away. If you get out of the vehicle without paying attention to the "shift to park" message, it will drain your battery and can leave you stranded.

Bob Howard Chevrolet in Oklahoma City of course wants me to bring it in for a "diagnostic" fee, even though there is a class action lawsuit on this issue, and several blogs say the repair cost ranges from $1,000 to $2,000. There are also 2 TSB's on this issue. Very annoyed, because this car has been really good to me. I'm trading it in ASAP.

The problem began a few weeks ago on my daughter's 2018 Chevy Malibu. Every time she put the car in park, a "shift to park" indicator would appear, preventing the vehicle from being shut off. A few times it took 15-20 minutes to shut the car off. I called the dealer who we leased it from & had to wait a week & a half for appointment. I spoke to 2 different service members who both told me it was not covered because her 3yr/30,000 mile warranty was up.

Doing my own research, I saw that Chevy offers a 5yr/60,000 mile powertrain warranty, but again was told it was not covered. I was given an estimate of between $300-$400. We had no choice but to get the vehicle fixed as my daughter needs it for school & work. I just picked it up today... $455.17. The whole reason we leased (for the first time) was to avoid these problems & costs as, like most of us, we are on a budget. I do not think the customer should be liable to pay for this. It was a technical issue, not wear & tear. I would like Chevy to reimburse me, or unfortunately we will be turning in our 2 vehicles & looking elsewhere.
