Silverado 4.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission

Tried to accelerate from 75 to 80mph on the interstate, no response from throttle input. Idled very roughly on the shoulder, stalling out every few seconds. It really wanted to run and felt like bad gas or water in the tank.

Fuel pump ended up shorting and giving only 20psi of pressure instead of ~60. GM tech at Firestone told me the pump will keep failing unless you replace the regulator too, which is labor-intensive and down almost to the head.

Silverado 3.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

Fuel pump has failed 4 times. Twice I was out of town and had to call family for help. Seems all parts of fuel pump are plastic and wiring is undersized. Seems engineers could design pump to withstand much more use. I drive 80 to 100k miles a year and depend on truck for income. The truck is rugged but fuel pump is weak point.
