CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Silverado has no defect trends, which is a very good sign now that it's more than a few years old.
A couple model years back, the 2007 Silverado has an oil consumption defect at low mileage (~50k miles) — so far there's only a very few reports of the same problem with the 2009 Silverado.
The 2009 Silverado received poor side impact ratings on models not equipped with the optional side air bags.

durning summer months, the charging indicator reads 11-15v
This problem only shows up durning the summer months. The outside temp is 88 degrees or above. the charging indicator starts out reading 15.5 v which is normal then its drops to about 11.0v or somewhere in between. As you drtive it varies between 11v and 15.5 . I can not make it read any certain way , good or bad. It appears that the voltage regulator is not working properly. I exchanged the altanator 4 times because the regulator is located in the alternator. The truck never failed to start, so I gave up. It is a scarry feeling to look down at your indicator and see your gauge reading 11 volts and you are i8n the middle of nowhere on a Sunday morning. apparently the problem is not in the regulator or the alternator and the truck is still working.
