Silverado LTZ 5.3L

When I bought this truck it had approx. 19,500 miles on it. It was in really great condition and I got a great deal on it. 6-7000 miles later I started noticing excessive loss of oil. I was having to add 3-4 quarts every 1000-1500 miles. (Complaint already filed). When the truck had approx. 26,870 miles on it I was out running errands when the engine felt like it dropped completely out of the truck. I lost power. The engine felt like it was shaking violently, which in turn started shaking the truck. It shifted very poorly, idled extremely rough, and ran very poorly. I contacted my local Chevy dealership (Spitzer) and told them I was coming in and the reasons why. Spitzer Chevrolet is a good dealership, and their service department is very good as well. Very friendly, helpful staff. The service manager (Clark) set me up with a loaner truck and got mine in for diagnosis immediately. I was notified, I believe the next day, what the issue was. Clark said the bad news was the engine lifters and Active Fuel Management lifters failed and would need replaced. He said it would probably be $2500 to have the problem fixed. He then told me the good news was my truck was still covered under factory warranty and it wouldn't cost me a penny. I was very happy to hear that. Approx 3 days later I had my truck back and it was running pretty good. However, I still had the problem with the excessive oil loss (Complaint on file). What my brain has a hard time wrapping itself around is how an engine with only 26,882 miles on it could have so many problems already! I traded a 2007 GMC Sierra with 117,000+/- miles on it for this Chevy. That GMC never had one engine problem. Not One!

I was having to add 3-4 quarts every 1000-1500 miles. (Complaint already filed). The engine felt like it was shaking violently, which in turn started shaking the truck. It shifted very poorly, idled extremely rough, and ran very poorly. The above complaint occurred in April 2015.

Flash forward to May 2017 and I had the exact thing happen. I was out with my son when the engine light cam on. I lost power, the engine starting shaking, which in turn made the whole truck shake. The engine idled very rough, and shifted very poorly. I made it home and contacted Spitzer Chevrolet, who fixed this issue when it happened the first time. The service manager with told me they warrant their work for only 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Now this would've been an expensive job to have fixed the first time it happened. Lucky for me the factory warranty covered it. Now, 27,793 miles later and the lifters have failed again! This engine has less than 55,000 miles on it and it has excessive oil loss issues that are related to the heads, cylinders, and pistons. Plus it has a propensity to have the lifters fail approx. every 27,000 miles!! This should not be happening with so little miles!

Spitzer Chevrolet says they will gladly have a look at the truck and give an official diagnosis but they will not cover the cost of the repair. The service manager (James) said the manufacture would not cover any repairs and neither could they. After all the warranty is already expired. This repair will cost me thousands of dollars. Of course the dealership is willing to look at it. They want my money! Now you tell me. Why would an engine have lifters fail every 27,000 miles if there wasn't a defect with the parts, or service provided? Why would a vehicle have oil consumption issues if not for a manufacturers defect? Chevy should stand behind their products better!

Started my truck one morning and it made some ugly sounds. Stabilitrack light and reduced engine power alert came on. Did some research as I like to fix the problems that I can myself. Had a buddy pull the code and it was 2195. My buddy told me it had to do with air flow. Thought it might be the throttle position sensor so I removed the air intake assembly and looked into the throttle intake. It was very dirty. Talked with Chevy and was told a dirty throttle body could very well be the cause of my problem. They also told me I should be cleaning the throttle body once a year. Cleaned the throttle body with the appropriate cleaner and problem went away, for now anyways. Awfully nice of Chevy to make me aware of the annual throttle body cleaning. I wonder how many people do not know about this. Most I assume. Cleaning the throttle body is very easy and there are videos on youtube that show the steps. I am assuming this problem has to do with the wonderful fuel we all use now days.

Chevy used to make a good truck, there adding to many computers and trying to make them a .car.i have been stranded twice. the low engine power and traction loss comes on and the truck will only do about 15 miles an hr. this is very dangerous on snow covered roads, you traveling down the road and suddenly you lose power and traction, i was almost smashed in the rear end by another car. the newer the models get the more trouble i have!

Ok 3rd major problem and 4th time to the shop. This time engine light comes on, and reduced power displays. THIS WAS A VERY VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD HAVE CAUSED EXTREME HARM OR DEATH TO MY FAMILY!!!!!

We were driving home in below freezing temps and were on a 4 lane highway with no exits for miles. We were driving around 70 miles per hour and instantly the truck slows to a mere 18 miles per hour and is running very, very rough. Luckily, the cars behind us were not following too closely (it was night time) and had time to swerve around us. We limped back home and were very happy to have made it safely. I once again had it towed to the dealership.

They gave me a loaner truck but called me back the same day and said we were all set because it was only the throttle control which was under a recall and was fixed, although I was also almost out of oil once again. They assured me the truck was fine. But this was not the end of the problem.
