This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
ABS unit failed. ABS light on dash illluminated. Had to remove fuse. 1st dealer said okay to remove fuse.when we took it in to the dealer we were told it was too bad we don't have the extended warranty. The ABS module usually fails after the 36,000 mile warranty expires.
ABS light came on and there was a humming noise coming from underneath vehicle once ABS was engaged. Consumer pulled fuse to stop the noise and it shut ABS system off. Dealer would have to charge $750. Consumer went to an independent dealer. But, consumer is still experincing a problem when the brakes are applied. Vehicle slides like before. Consumer seems to think ABS is faulty. The ABS system had failed, and the consumer's survey indicated that thousands of consumers had been experiencing the problem.
My 1999 Silverado pickup has 66,000+ miles at 60,221 miles the "ABS" light came on and the unit directly below the driver's seat that is mounted to the frame began to humm continuosly. After checking with my Chevrolet dealer where I purchased the vehicle, he explained that the cost of replacement for the unit in question was $728. I asked the service manager if it would be okay to continue driving the vehicle if I unplugged it. He assured me that it was okay. After doing some investigating & questioning other owners I found that they too had experienced problems with the ABS system. It is my opinion that the failure of such an expensive, major safety component at only 60,000 is excessive and dangerous. The ABS module is the heart of the ABS system and without it the vehicle is rendered undriveable and unsafe. This vehicle has already had three recalls, although minor in comparison, but recalls none-the-less. I consider the failure of the ABS system serious and a major flaw in the design of this vehicle.
Power window motor fails, drops glass down inside panel, replaced 4 month old motor going out. Window will not respond. Power locks; remote keyless entry would not open doors, locked out of vehicle several times. Inside manual locks have quit working won't unlock, persons have been locked in vehicle! including children with adult. ABS motor won't shut off, pulled fuse, dealer says the motor wiring is shorting out, don't know why, driving through rain or car wash may be cause. ??
Tire failed when the truck was parked. The brakes do not always apply full braking when the peddle is pushed to the floor. This is not the ABS activating. The braking distance may be 3 to 4 times what it should be. The dealer tested the the brake system and test drove it and said that everything is normal. The peddle travel does not seem to have enough to allow for variations in the system. I believe this is a design defect. (tiresize: P265/75R16)( dot number: Tire size: P265/75R16 )
Consumer was traveling at approximately 60 mph under wet rainy conditions when control of the vehicle was lost. Consumer applied brakes and vehicle slid into a jersey wall head-on. Driver's and passenger's air bags failed to deploy. Dealership has not looked at vehicle to determine reason that air bags failed to deploy. Allstate insurance company was currently in possession of vehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Consumer contacted the dealership in regard to recall 00V345000 concerning ABS brake system. Dealership informed consumer that replacement part was not available to repair recalled part. Please provide any additional information/attachments. Consumer was advised that there was some signs of wear on other vehicles that had been inspected, but was advised they would call consumer once part came in.
Consumer was traveling 30mph on hiighway with rear disc brakes that were metal chunks flying off of brakes while traveling. He was able to take vehicle to a dealership safely. Dealership was aware of problem.
ABS pump was constantly running, no ABS braking action during that time. Also, this would have caused battery to drain. Took vehicle to dealer who replaced ABS pump.
Consumer was driving about 10-15 mph applied brakes and ABS just pulsated, and there was no braking action. Upon inspection of vehicle consumer found out wheel bearing hub and ABS were connected. When wheel bearings were worn out ABS would fail. Dealer stated Chevrolet was aware of this problem. Consumer hit a barrier post due to the faulty ABS brakes damaging the front end of vehicle, even though GM is aware of problem they will not pay damages, when the hub wears the antilock sensor reads falsely leading to no brakes.
Premature wear of brake pads and drums. Dealer has put 4 sets of pads and drums on vehicle. Consumer states that rear drums do not adjust properly, which cause the front brake pads to wear at approximately 10000 miles, sometimes brakes smoke and rattle.
ABS module continues to run, ABS & brake light on in dash. Many others like this. Chevy has started installing a different unit, but has not recalled the older units that have failed.
