The dimmer switch for interior lighting is prone to failure. When it fails, all dash and gauge cluster illumination will cease to function, causing dangerous driving conditions after dark. The driver will not be able to see any gauges or climate control features, which may cause a crash.

Warning lights started flashing in the information center, starting with ABS warning, then cycled through the rest of the warnings. The instrument panel gauges and gear selector, mileage display, and all other digital lighting shuts off. Functions then turn back on, then off. It continues this cycle throughout the time the vehicle is running. I consider this a dangerous situation as when all driving information shuts down, it leaves driver with no clue of speed of travel, level of fuel, in which gear the vehicle is in, etc. Etc.

On the 2001 Chevy Silverado I own the fuel gauge does not read the right amount it shows full then empty. My family has 4 of these model trucks all together and all of them are doing the same thing. While I was driving down the highway my fuel gauge read half a tank and I ran out of fuel in the left lane. My vehicle was almost rear ended by a semi truck. Luckily I was able to get to the side of the road before causing a accident. This is a major problem on alot of these model trucks.

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving less than 55 mph, the contact smelled a chemical odor. She had a cigarette in the ashtray and smoke appeared from behind the ashtray. She attempted to remove the ashtray, but it was too hot to grab. She rolled the windows down and the instrument panel caught fire. A nearby service station attendant was able to extinguish the fire. It was determined that the fire was not caused by the cigarette. A police report was filed. The VIN was unable to be entered. The failure and current mileages were over 150,000.

Vehicle is stalling and not starting and brakes have to be replaced more often than any normal vehicle/truck/van. This occurrence has been happening for the last 2 years. Took the vehicle to many mechanics and even the dealer. All types of things have been replaced (fuel pump, starter, tune-up, spark plugs, brakes, brake disc, rotors, etc...) and it still has the same problem. The vehicle is stalling and it seems that enough gas is not getting to the engine and it seems that brakes wear quite too often. I know this may cost the company alot to recall but we as citizens pay alot for these vehicles and they should own up to these manufacturing issues. I have investigated this problem online and there are many others out there like myself that have reported the same problem from models dating back to 1997. Please assist me with getting the manufacturer to fix this problem, times are hard and I can't afford to spend another dime on this vehicle when I shouldn't. date listed below is the last occurrence and I am at my wits end. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

: the contact stated at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted every time the engine stalled. Also, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined the crankshaft sensor would have to be replaced. Updated 9/13/2006 - the crankshaft sensor was replaced but that did not correct the stalling problem. The check engine light did not come on the last time the vehicle stalled.

: the contact stated while turning the vehicle around, the vehicle became anchored and the grass below erupted in flames. Since the vehicle could not be moved; the vehicle also became inflamed. The contact obtained a fire extinguisher and quenched the fire. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop for repairs caused by the fire.

While night driving on a country road at 55 mph, I decided to turn up the brightness of the dashboard lights of my 2001 chev. Silverado 2500hd pickup. While trying to find the dash light adjustment wheel, I accidentally pushed the dome light override switch. When it engaged, every light on the vehicle was turned off, even the dash lights. I desperately held the wheel in what I hoped was a straight line and braked to as quick a stop as possible. Fortunately, the truck was still on the road when it stopped. I got the lights to work again by turning the main headlight switch off and then back on again.

2001 Chevrolet Silverado ton pick up. The anti- lock braking system failed. While driving and coming a stop sign or light and pressing on the brakes there is a chatter on the brake pedal or grinding noise from the vehicle. The vehicle will not stop right away, it takes a few seconds more than usual to stop. Sometimes when pushing the brakes it is harder to push the pedal down, this only happens at a slow stopping speed. This doesn't happen when you are traveling at higher speeds. Took vehicle to dealership and they said was the anti lock braking system would take at least 3 hours to fix and would cost $600. The rotors were warped and the brake pads were worn. The doors locked on their own and the seats moved forward on their on.

Consumer states 4 way emergency flashers do not always work must fiddle with switch or turn signal to operate, battery will not show green eye, water is leaking left side top and right side of drivers side windshield, and front end and steering shimmy at 30-40 mph.
