Hello, I have a 2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ. Bought it used in January of 2014, almost four months ago. Two days ago while the vehicle was parked engine still running, I stepped out of the vehicle towards the rear to speak with a nearby friend. Within about three minutes after exiting the vehicle I noticed the rear lights flash a couple of times and then to my surprise the power liftgate began to open on its own, as I began to walk closer to the vehicle the lights flashed again and the liftgate began to close.
I continued to watch in amazement as the power liftgate repeatedly opened and closed about four to five times in a five minute period. I turned off the vehicle's engine to see if that would help, but about two minutes later the lights flashed and again the liftgate began to open. I checked for possible obstructions in the path and found none, and once the liftgate closed I pushed on it a couple of times thinking that maybe it wasn't closing all the way or that the locking mechanism wasn't fully engaging. Nothing seemed to help, I toggled to the liftgate switch in the front headliner a couple of times, and I even checked to make sure the buttons on the keyless remote weren't sticking or pushed in. I have come to figure out that when the vehicle is locked or in "Drive" that the liftgate will not open by itself, this is a small relief.
I discovered from the owner's manual that the liftgate button in the front headliner, that if you toggle it, it serves as an override to turn off the power liftgate. So for now that's the plan until I can figure out a solution. I'd love to hear if anyone else has run into the issue and if anyone has found a solution.
