My 2003 Trailblazer just does not shift on a regular basis until the engine revs high enough to move it into the next gear. It is annoying.

Not sure whether a new tranny can fix the problem.

Any advice?

Trailblazer LTZ V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 76,000 miles

Was on freeway when all of a sudden went from 75mph to 25 mph. Thought had transmission leak so added transmission fluid so i could drive it shop. Shop said its common problem with 2003 trailblazers and I had no 3rd gear and needed to be rebuilt. I am frustrated because up to this point i have been a loyal GM buyer. I find it peculiarly interesting that the transmission goes after extended warranty expired. There should be a recall for this. no warning lights or anything. I could have been rear ended on the highway and my daughter could have gotten hurt by impact of a vehicle going 50 mph faster than me!!! Maybe that's what it will take for a recall.

Trailblazer LS 4.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

My wife drives our 03 Trailblazer and called me one evening to inform me that it wouldn't shift out of first gear and was revving extremely high. I had her pull over, put it in park and then start off again with trans in 1st and to work her way through the gears. She did this and it stopped. However, now that summer is here and it's been over 100 degrees here for the past 3 weeks, this noise is back. Everytime you stop and start in traffic or just come to a stop sign, it revvs extremely high until you get into 3rd gear. Anyone know what this might be? I was told that it's the fan clutch but then again, that's a $400-$500 fix at the dealership!
