CarComplaints.com Notes: Carrying the not-so-proud traditions of its 2002 predecessor, the 2003 has a handful of instrument panel malfunctions that can leave you guessing your speed, engine temperature or how much gas is left in the tank.

On my first day from the lot purchasing a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, gas runs from the fuel tank when I fill up. After seeing all the complaints with the same problem, why is there no recall for this?

I am being told that my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer has a cracked gas tank and has been leaking fuel. We have noticed a strong gasoline odor from the outside of the vehicle for a few weeks. Apparently, Chevy created a 'special policy' when this issue occurred for its 2002 Trailblazers, but I am concerned that no attention is being given to the 2003 models. My dealership is replacing the gas tank which normally would have cost approx $1300, however, to get this deal, they are requiring me to pay for the 50K suggested maintenance on the vehicle at a cost of $475. There has been no injury or accident to myself as a result of this defect, but I feel that it is important enough to warrant investigation since this has also occurred in previous models. Also, in previous models Chevy paid for all of the repairs without requiring the owners to spend money on 'suggested maintenance'. the service bulletin number from Chevy for the 2002 models is tsb 05012.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact claimed to smell gas. The check engine light illuminated a few days later. The vehicle was taken to dealer for service twice. During the second visit, a leak in the filler hose was diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired, but because the repair was not performed by a Chevy dealer, the contact could not be reimbursed. The failure mileage was 45885. The customer stated to Chevy that he has the cracked filler hose and offered to take to a Chevy dealer but preferred an independent testing company GM refused in both cases. Update 04/19/07.

: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection who determined the filler pipe neck at the top of the fuel storage tank assembly was leaking and needed replaced. The manufacturer was alerted. Updated 10/25/2006 - the tank and inlet is a one piece unit. The inlet cracked around the molded flange where it attaches to the fuel tank. This is where the fuel leaked from.

Fuel leak at the fuel tank neck where rubber hose running from fuel filler pipe is attached to fuel tank. (hose is secured to fuel tank by a hose clamp). The check engine light was on, dealer simply reset the light. The light was back two days later and there was a gas smell. I looked at the fuel tank and saw fuel was seeping at the fuel tank neck.

Fuel spillage just after auto shutoff on gas pump on my 03 Chevy Trailblazer. This seems to happen almost everytime I fill the tank. I see and have heard this is a common problem and I believe this is potentially very dangerous.

2003 Chevy Trailblazer ls- when filling up the gas tank with a full tank, gas spills out of the gas tank's fill pipe. This backwash happens everytime and occurs right after gas nozzle shuts off regardless of gas station that is used. It has been occurring ever since I bought the vehicle in July 03. I estimate 12+ occurrences.

While fueling verhicle, fuel always spills over just before or after auto-shutoff of gas pump. This happens even though I'm careful that it's coming close to a full tank and prepare for the spillage. Today it happened at a pump where the fuel pump nozzle was of a non-accordian type boot. I've spoken with others who have the same problem and dealers are telling them to be more careful when re-fueling. What will it take GM to admit there's a design flaw in the fuel delivery system? this is only one of many issues with the Trailblazer. You'd think for what they cost that they'd be built better.

Gas filler tube overflows on to the ground almost every time the vehicle is filled up with gas. Has done this since purchase. Tested different gas stations pumps thinking that was the cause but it does this at all of them about a second or so after the pump clicks off. Also the filler tube boot has a built in hole for the gas to drain on to the ground....which ( on the better side I guess) does keep it from getting on the side of the vehicle on occasion.
