CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.

The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, WITH NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF ON ME. Fortunately I was able to pull to the shoulder without being hit. The transmission light and check engine light came on. I tried to put the car in gear and it wouldn't shift. I turned it off and on several times and let it sit for a while. It finally started and I was able to get it home. When I took it to the dealer I was told that it was a software update that needed to be done.

I called Chrysler and after two calls and threat to go to the media.a supervisor called me and I expressed to him that Chrysler should be calling all 200 owners to alert them that their car could shut down on them without warning. I expressed that I was extremely fortunate that I was not killed when my car shut down going 65mph on the expressway. He ignored my plea but told me he would give me 2 years of free oil changes. I told him I didn't want oil changes, I wanted Chrysler to keep this from happening to someone else. I was told they would look into it. I still have not received my oil change contract after almost two months.

I took the car in for trans problems the 1st month I bought it. I got a module update and was told to drive it for several weeks to teach the "smart" transmission my way of driving. Still having problems and I went back and i got a whole new transmission and now you can hear the trans shifting into gears and it accelerates in reverse without me stepping on the gas.

Transmission Failure It was replaced once and went again. So less than 20k miles and it went through 2 transmissions. I feel very unsafe and refuse to drive the car after the last incident. A/C froze up had to replace carpet in vehicle 2x .I have had a rental car for the last 2 months while it was being repaired. Transmission failed going up hill 70 mph in PA with Semi-truck behind me who almost rear ended me the vehicle shut off and I lost all power including power steering. I slowed down at 15 mph the car went into park and the e-brake went on and jerked us all over the car.

Purchased 2015 Chrysler 200C on April 24, 2015. There was a recall but it was not addressed before I drove off the sales lot. On July 2, 2015, I got in the car to go home and it wouldn't shift into drive, multiple alarms were going off, and different items to service were being displayed on the dash. After shutting the car off several times and restarting it, I was finally able to get it in to drive. Drove directly to the dealership. Short story they said the transmission had to be replaced. I finally got the car back on July 16, 2015. Since it was under warranty I did have a rental car, but it was still very annoying that a car I had less than 3 months and had about 3200 miles on it needed a new transmission.

Second issue in another post because it deals with communications.

Driving 25mph near home when dash erupts in multiple failures including transmission temp warning light and locking of transmission in 1st gear. Next day off to dealer who repairs problem with software update. This occurs 18 days after car went in for transmission recall work on 10th. I'm not sure problem is related to inspection. I' m now concerned about my safety in this vehicle.

I have lemon!!! Car stalls out all the time when driving. All gear lights flash. Need to try and coast off road and turn off, then it will work again till next time. I am afraid of this car, it is a death trap. Had it in to be " fixed". Four times already, nothing seem to work. If I can't have dealership work with me on getting out of my lease and into something safer, it will be lemon law for me in court. Death trap. Do not buy!!

Update from Aug 29, 2015: This is second time it is in with them saying they tightened wiring. Did not work first time. Will see if it works this time.

I really am afraid this car will get me or someone else killed. Just quits running while driving a matter of time before I get slammed. Will keep you posted. Say a prayer for me and drivers around me. Wish they would take this car back.

I bought this car JULY 20th, BRAND NEW. 20 or so miles. I was visiting different family members over the summer back and forth. Never drove for an excessive amount of time or drove in rough conditions etc. around the 900 mile mark, on 1st of August, the MIL light came on, I read up on what it could've meant, completed all the suggestions and it still stayed on. The car was sluggish for a few days, then the light went off and the car continued to be sluggish.

This Friday the light came back and the symptoms have gotten way worse, the car doesn't accelerate nearly as good as it use to. On startup it sounds like a gas powered weed eater trying to turn over. While running it is loud and there is a kind of circulating tap going through the engine. When pressing the brakes to slow down it speeds up faster, KEEP IN MIND THIS CAR HAS ONLY 1900 MILES ON IT TODAY. AND HAS ONLY BEEN USED FOR LESS THAN A MONTH.

May 31st my husband purchased me a Chrysler 200c. I was extremely excited, because I had been renting vehicles twice a month since August 2014 to travel to Middle Tennessee State University for a doctoral program. This trip is about 500 miles round trip from my home. I was using the rentals as an opportunity to test drive several vehicles. My last rental was May 30th and it was a Chrysler 200. The 200 immediately went to the top of my list. The vehicle was comfortable, good on gas, and I felt extremely safe driving it.

So imagine how disgusted I was when the Service Transmission and Check Engine light came on after having the vehicle for only two months, 7458 miles and one payment made. We took the vehicle to the service department and was informed there was a 5 week backlog on transmissions. I made my second payment and don't even have my car, and being told that I'm twelfth in line I just might be making several payments without driving my NEW Chrysler 200c.

The customer service has been horrible, because no one seems to have any empathy for the fact that this is a new vehicle having major issues. No one wants to pay for a brand new vehicle that they can't drive because it's at the service department.

I have lost all confidence in the dependability and safety of the Chrysler 200c; and I am one very unsatisfied Chrysler Customer

I purchased this vehicle new of course. Drove fine for a while, then felt slightly off. Next thing I knew couldn't shift gears and started to lose acceleration. Luckily, I wasn't far from the dealership and made it there right before the car stopped completely. Transmission needs to be replaced, I'm going on two weeks without my car, I do have a rental which they are paying for, this site doesn't help matters much, to hear others have the same problem. Something needs to be done.

I bought my 200 August of 2014. When I got it, I loved the car... I still love the car just hate the problems.... Jan 2015 I was driving to meet my husband for lunch and it just cut off in the middle the road. Scared me half to death. I pulled into a parking lot cut it off. All the lights came on and the engine light was on. Started it back up and drove it straight to the dealership... they said it was a computer chip in my transmission and replaced it..

May 2015 my seat belt light wouldn't got off, so I took it to the dealership. In June 2015 find out that I needed a whole new transmission... I was in shock I haven't even hit 10k miles on it yet.... I don't feel safe I won't drive it out of town because it is still giving me problems.. it has been about a month since I got it back with the new transmission and it is now acting like it has bad gas in it and putting while driving.

It also excels a little when I start to push the break to slow down.... I have called Chrysler for a buy back, but they want me to keep taking it into the dealership.... I have recommended this car to family prior to my issues and they have bought one with no problems YET, but I would feel sad if they got the issues I have had..... this car needs to be put in with the truck recalls that Chrysler is having.....

I am so disappointed that at 5,000 miles the check engine light is on and it needs a new transmission, I am wondering if I have a lemon? What else is going to happen to it, with the high payments I cannot afford to fix anything. I wanted a car that is safe for my daughter to drive and this happens, I am not very happy at all. After reading the complaints from others I realize this is a problem that has occurred several times with other consumers. I am not sure I want to keep this car, afraid of what might be next.

Took my 2015 Chrysler 200 in for recall at the beginning of June. Complained to them that 3rd gear was jerky when engaging, to the point that it occasionally locked my seat belt. They did the recall repair and said they updated the software and that the jerkiness would go away. It didn't and on June 11th, the transmission failed, service transmission warning message comes on. Car only has 4th gear available so I limped it to the dealership. They replaced the transmission control module and I finally got the car back on June 18th. They claimed it was fixed. One week later, June 18th, the transmission failed, service transmission warning message comes on. Car again only has 4th gear available and i limp it into the dealership again.

The dealership has provided loaner vehicles each time and has been very courteous. That all being said, I have spent more time driving their loaner vehicles this month than my Chrysler 200. If anything more goes wrong with this transmission, that will be the 4th time and if not fixed, I will be pursuing a lemon law solution.

Attention all: I have a Chrysler 200 2015 and I am not sure if I really want to keep this car. What happened was my wife and I were driving down the street and all in sudden our car's engine shut off. It showed us a message on a screen to shift in to park and push the start button again. I tried but it didn't work. My brake/clutch pedal was stuck and the gear shift wouldn't work. Then after 5-7 mins I tried again and it worked. I felt this situation extremely dangerous and serious. Anything could have happened, like any accidents or damage. Thank god we were not on a freeway. I bought this car because I wanted to support North American companies and I have always dreamt of driving one, but now I am not sure enough.

Brand new car and this is NOT the first issue I've had with it with only 14,000 miles on it. Extremely upset with this car and no longer feel confident or safe. While driving all of the bells and whistles went off, AWD Unavailable message, then Service Transmission message, then Parking Brake message. All gear shift lights lit up and the gear shifter would not turn so I was stuck in drive. Shut car off and it wouldn't turn back on. After 10 minutes, all of the gear shift lights went out, except for park, and then I could restart it. Engine light and traction control lights were still lit. Dealer replaced the transmission control module due to an open circuit.

Update from Sep 1, 2015: After the control module was replaced about two weeks later I had the slip into neutral while driving issue. They replaced the transmission wire harness, which apparently is not a well-known fix. This did, however, fix all of my issues and the card has been running perfect ever since.

200 S V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,000 miles

In a weird way I am glad to see others have experienced the same issues with the transmission in the 2015 200.

In summary, I purchased the very first 200 off the dealer lot in May 2014, it is a 200S AWD, almost fully loaded. Love everything about the car except for one key component, the transmission. Car worked fine until 9,000 miles when I was driving on the highway and the car stalled, check transmission light and "engage park" warnings came on, I couldn't shift into park, had to use the e-brake. Had the car towed to dealership but of course it was a late Friday afternoon, there was no transmission tech available, so I had to get a rental vehicle.

4 days later the tech called me and told me that they couldn't detect any major issues, they just did a "software update". So I had to fork out $140 for the rental vehicle that neither my warranty nor my insurance would cover. As a side note I have rental coverage on my insurance however their small print indicates that they only cover it if the vehicle is involved in an accident (fortunately I was not). Fast forward to 3 days ago. Car had been running fine (except for the fact that it would always hesitate at the foot of my driveway at my house which is at an incline).

3 days ago my car once again stalled on the highway, I was lucky enough to be going fast enough to coast to a parking lot. Same exact thing I experienced at 9,000 miles (I am now at 16,000 miles). This time though I powered the vehicle off and waited for about 10 minutes. The car was able to shift back to park after restarting but the check engine light came on. I was only about 3 miles from the car dealership so I drove the car back there. They gave me a rental vehicle (that I do not have to pay for thank goodness!). About 3 hours later they called me and told me the transmission has to be replaced. They don't have one in stock so they have it on back order, could be "2-3 weeks" before it is in. I promptly followed up with an email to one of the VP's of Chrysler. To my surprise he did call me back today and offered a full 100k bumper to bumper warranty with zero deductible.

Obviously I am not very happy about having a transmission replaced in a car with only 16k miles but the fact that a Chrysler VP did follow up with me and was at least sympathetic to my plight helped soften the blow a tiny bit.

One last side note, I did receive a recall notice in the mail about 3 weeks ago, ironically I had an appt scheduled for this Saturday to have the vehicle inspected per the recall. All indications are that the problems I have experienced are right in line with the recall. It's really too bad that this car has such as major defect, I truly do like all other aspects of the vehicle, but obviously the transmission is a major component of any vehicle.

This car is a total nightmare!!! I absolutely do not feel safe driving this vehicle. After already getting the transmission replaced, I'm STILL having transmission issues that seem really dangerous! I put the car into drive today and nothing happened. I returned the gear back to park. I then put the gear back into drive............nothing. So I press the gas just to see what would happen since it was in drive and wasn't moving. ..............................finally the car makes a loud noise and darts out going about 20 mph. Scary and embarrassing. I hate I ever stumbled across this car! The car is only nice looking on the outside, possessed and unpredictable on the inside!! I own a Chrysler 200 and already have had to replace the transmission in it. The cel will come on and it will SHIFT horrible. Sometimes when the cel goes off, it shifts almost as good as it used to before I had problems. Even with the new trans they just put in it, I'm still having shifting issues....... I can pull up anywhere with a passenger in my car and they can get out of the car and a message and alarm will tell me that the key fob has left the vehicle.. I think there is a problem with the pcm not the transmission. They are wanting to put another one in at the dealership, because that is the only hope of fixing the problem. The techs at the dealerships have no training on 8 or 9 speed trans. It isn't available to them yet.. Chrysler extended my warranty bumper to bumper till 100000 miles, gave me 9 synthetic oil and filter changes with 6 tire rotations. I'M THINKING THAT IF I'M GONNA KEEP THIS CAR, THEY SHOULD GIVE ME SOME $$$$$$ OFF OF IT WHAT DO Y'ALL THINK?
