This model truck had a history of under dash electrical fires, and ntsb ordered a recall no. 875 to correct the dangerous defect. I had this recall performed about one year ago when it was announced. The fire in my truck was concentrated in the same circuits involved in the recall, and in addition spread to the engine compartment where it ignited a pool of fuel which had leaked from a defective fuel line. At the time of the fire, the engine could not be shut down by the key, and firemen had to disconnect the batteries to stop it.
A fuel odor in passenger's compartment. Also, vehicle is very difficult to start, and fuel is leaking. Consumer has contacted dealer, owner noticed a fuel leak on the rubber fuel line behind the fuel filter. Vehicle is a 3500 series. When the rubber hose from the fuel filter to the fuel return line was removed, it appeared to be rotted through allowing fuel to leak out along the entire length and when the vehicle was parked on an incline with the front end down, the fuel dripped continuously.

The low pressure supply and retun fuel lines on the driver side near the front wheel cracked and as they worsened spryed diesel fuel on the engine and the air conditioning system carried the fumes into the passenger compartment causing nausea, headaches and lung conjestion. This happened over a period of several days, gradually worsening until the problem became apparent and action could be taken.
