Driving at highway speed the cruise control would not disengage via the brake or by hitting off on the steering wheel. If I put the clutch in the engine was idling at 2300 rpms. The throttle was stuck on and I could not slow down... I turned the engine off and turning it back on again the problem was not reset. My clutch and breaks got a little burnt up making it home that night...as the problem happened when I was in the middle of nowhere. One I made it home I turned the engine off and manually jiggled the throttle linkages on the side of the injection pump. Restarted the vehicle and the problem was reset until cruise control was used again.... this was very dangerous to have the throttle sticking at such high speed... so I looked into safety recalls #B15 thinking great my truck is covered... only to find out that recall was already performed. Also the fuel heater recall was performed and it so happens in the last 4 moth have to do the fuel heater delete because the wiring and plastic piece was all burnt up. Looks like these trucks are having a second round of the same or similar safety recall issues.
1998.5 24valve cummins diesel, one owner with factory ECM (799) update, never any "chips". on cold start up, everything normal until I go to take off, any application to the accelerator and as if I put the accelerator all the way to the floor, truck will continue to accelerate until either I remove my foot completely off the pedal, or the governor kicks in.
When the cruise control was engaged the speed exceeded the speed set by the consumer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the engine control module needed to be replaced. There was also a recall on the fuel transfer pump. The pump was replaced, but now a new pump is needed.
While waiting at a stop light, I had the clutch pedal depressed and the truck in first gear. The truck suddenly started to drive off as if I had released the clutch. I had to struggle to shut off the engine and regain control of the vehicle. Nlm

Cruise control intermittently shuts down, causing vehicle to slow down. Safety factor is that there is no indication to following vehicles that a problem exissts. For instance, I passed a truck on I81 in wva with the cruise set at 70 mph the trucks speed was approx 67 mph. When I pulled back into the right lane the cruise control shut down. There was absolutly no indication to the truck driver that this was happening. I barely had time to hit accelerator in time to avoid being rearended by the truck.
While I was driving the vehicle at about 35 mph, the truck began revving, then stopped. I could see transmission fluid leaking. The truck was towed to the dealer, who removed the transmission and rebuilt it.
When placing transmission gear in reverse vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, crashing into a brick fence. Also, consumer stepped on brake pedal and rear wheels were spinning. Consumer has contacted dealer. Dealer has made some adjustments, but problem still occurs.
The design of horn button hardens in cold weather causing difficulties locating horn in a emergency. Occasionally the horn fails to work properly. The cruise control would gradually decrease without brakes being applied. Taken vehicle to dealer to check.
Vehicle accelerated from stop to high speed at engine startup. "burned rubber" for 30 feet before vehicle was stopped. Driver refused to drive vehicle after incident. Dealer contacted but advised that no previous event similar to this had ever occured to their knowledge. Is this similar to any other event with 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with 360 cid engine?
Ongoing/intermittent problem with cruise control, whenever cruise control is engaged, vehicle will go beyond control setting. Consumer has an appiontment for vehicle inspection.
When consumer turned on engine and moved the transmission pawl from park to drive, and upon stepping on brake pedal, vehicle took off in reverse, crashing into another vehicle.
Headlight switch failed to connect 3 or 4 times when pulled as though shaft was simply in a hole. Accelerator stuck and I had to brake heavily before it released.
