I have had very little trouble with this truck. The problem with the dash started about a year ago with a crack. One year later, the entire dash has fallen in from the cracks. I called Wilson Dodge in Brandon, Ms. to get a quote on the replacement. Just from the employees comments, Dodge must be making a killing on people buying these dashes. I was told they would make me a good deal on the replacement, give them a few minutes and they would call back. I am still waiting on the call for the good deal. Dodge will be waiting forever on me to buy another vehicle from them if they do not do the right thing and have a recall.

Typical Dodge, bought the truck for the motor, Cummins, just happens to be wrapped in a Dodge body-------- dash looks like a back road map, even my navigator system gets lost when I put it on the dash!

Took the complaint to Dodge, after a severe run around, they offered to pay for half about $400.00, told them no thanks.

it is apparent that dodge is aware of this problem, I wonder who would be responsible if some one was injured as a result of the damaged dashboard.

My 2001 dodge 2500 diesel I ordered brand new form factory. Has always been in side its whole life keep very extreme care of this truck. Notice about 6 months ago a few cracks in the dash and now its just about all falling apart. Cant believe dodge will not fix there problem. No way in hell am I going to pay to have them fix it. If I cant get them to do it for free. I guess I will have a custom one made. No use paying 1000 for another piece of crap.

Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel

  • 22,000 miles

I purchase my truck in 2003, I failed to notice that it had a crack in the dashboard I noticed it the first time I cleaned it which was maybe a month later. The truck had only 20,000 miles on it.I looked on the internet to see what I could do and that is when I found out that is was a manufacturing defect and that doge will not recall these things. Well it is now Sept.2008 and the dash has gotten a lot worse, it now has holes in it and in other places is fixing to fall through. I JUST HOPE THAT IF ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN, MAYBE DODGE WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND HAVE A RECALL. I dont have 500.00 or more to fork out and if I am to buy another truck you can sure bet it probably wont be a Dodge.

This dash problem happens to all dodge trucks from 1994 up .I have a shop, I work solely on dodge ram cummins diesel I love this truck,But almost every truck that has come in to the shop has had some sort of a crack or a hole large enough to put your head in it . I replaced mine with a new dash and covered it with a dash mat so far so good .But dodge truck owners need to file a class action law suit to wake up dodge. I have owned mostly Dodge trucks but have had Ford ,And Chevy too none are perfect, But Dodge needs to stand up for this crap and stop giving some lame reason its not covered. there older 1980s and up to 1993 trucks don't have this issue. EVERY DODGE RAM FROM 94 UP SHOULD GET A FREE UP GRADED DASH!!!

I have to say that I have owned many Chrysler products and this one has been a good vehicle. I am, However, very disappointed with the quality of the dash plastic. I agree that Chrysler should recall and repair these trucks, but replacing the dash with the same unit originally installed will eventually lead to the same end, cracked! I am looking into a molded plastic cover from LMC to cover the cracked one.

Ram 2500 5.9L

  • Automatic transmission

Love my Dodge 2001 2500. Although I have taken great care of the truck, the dash is seriously cracked. Really lowers the vehicle value. Bought a fitted carpet dash mat from J.C. Whitney catalog. The only affordable solution. With so many complaints regarding this same issue, Dodge should be mandated to do a recall.

Update from Aug 16, 2010: This has become a safety issue as the crack continues and there is the danger of wires becoming exposed and of sharp pieces from the plastic. This could also interfere with the airbag function. This is a safety hazard all the way around. Would very much like to see a Class Action filed. Surely there is an attorney out there that would take the case. Would love to get the word out to all Dodge Ram owners.

Purchased a used (from Dealer) Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 - 48,000 miles, now has about a 3" crack in dash.

After reading much on internet its a common factory fault with these dashes. I am going to try. After reading extensively on the internet.

1:) Clean dash thoroughly to remove any Armor-all or sealants that may have been used prior. (mild soap and warm water, dry with cloth)

2;) Apply Vasoline and rub in (not to hard so to crack it more) - try to use once a month.

3:) Get a Molded carpet dash cover from customer covers (best price I have seen so far)

4:) Keep my fingers crossed that this will slow down the cracking problem.

Dodge 2500 Diesel

Dodge Dash problem. I live in South Texas and on day I parked my truck in the shade the South Texas Marksmanship Training Center for about two hours. When I left the Center, I turned on the AC and after driving a few minutes I heard what I thought was gun shot. I thought someone had taken shot at my truck with a rifle. The noise was a very loud CRACK. I ducked down and continued to drive for about one mile. I pulled over and checked the out side of my truck for bullet holes. No holes! I got back in my truck, and that is when I saw the DASH Cracks. As I drove home the cracks migrated across my dash and opened up to about inch gaps. I keep my truck parked under my Car-Port when at home and it was in immaculate condition. My truck was under the 36,000 miles at the time so I took it to the Dealer (Fiesta Dodge San Antonio, TX). The dealers service writer told me the cracked dash was not covered under the warranty. So I have been driving with a cracked trashy Dodge Dash. Dodge has a problem with their dashes and is not willing to make good on any dash repairs /replacements.

'01 Ram 2500. Crack in dash appeared one day. A week later the whole dash is cracked and falling through. Very poor product. I called Chrysler customer service 1-800-992-1997 spoke to three different reps. Leslie, Christine, and their supervisor Kelly. I registered the complaint. They told me Chrysler WILL NOT fix the problem since the truck is not within the 3 yr. warranty. I have researched this defect and MANY '01 Dodge Ram owners have experienced this defect. Some have gotten theirs repaired anby Chrysler at little or no cost to the customer. Basically the customer service reps at Chrysler told me I was S.O.O.L.! I WILL NEVER BUY A DODGE/ CHRYSLER PRODUCT!!

First of all I can't believe that Dodge has not recalled this problem. Or that there hasn't been more complaints on the 2500. You all should look at the 1500's complaints, there are lots. I'm sure if you add up all the dash complaints from all their trucks it should be a sufficient enough for a recall. I'm really disappointed in dodge for not handling this problem more professionally. Might have to go back to Chevy.
