Ram 2500 2500 Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

I was getting into the driver's seat of our 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel, and I boosted myself up using the grab handle. It had been wobbling some, but this time it came completely undone. I tumbled to the ground, grab bar in hand -- thank goodness it was on our dirt driveway and I suffered no more than a bruise on my hip (note: I am not a large person, 135 lb. female). I called and complained to Chrysler.

More recently, the passenger side grab handle of the same truck came off but no fall resulted. Additionally, our daughter has a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. Her grab handles are coming loose as well.

These grab bars are attached with plastic parts. They crack after a time, especially if you live in warm southern climates, such as Arizona -- and Florida, where our daughter lives. One would think they would use metal parts but they say that these grab bars are "cosmetic". Really? I am 5'6" trying to get into a truck that requires a nearly 2 foot step up? And the grab bars are not meant to help me?

Just be careful when you are using the grab bars. I have read online about fractured hips, etc. and just thankful that my fall wasn't worse.
