CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar†warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

When driver side door is shut light stays on and says door is ajar, makes battery run out of juice. Passenger side air bag is off at all times even when passenger is sitting in seat.
"door ajar" sensor on driver's door not sensing when door is shut causing doors not to lock automatically when in motion at any speed and causing battery drainage as lights will not turn off after being locked when parked, which also exposes contents of vehicle for potential theft.
Driver door ajar! when the door is closed! uhh left me stranded twice because it ran down my battery.. there needs to be a recall! paid too much for this vehicle!

Door ajar warning front driver passenger doors remain on with doors closed. Doors will not lock and interior lights remain on while car is stopped and in motion.
I now have had 2 door sensors go bad. I know of many people with faulty sensors. This not only is a safety hazard because the dome lights never go out, but you never know the true position of the doors. The cars dome lights stay on after you get out and lock it causing dead batteries! I've had to replace two batteries and a door sensor already. This is ridiculous. Not to mention very expensive. I just bought a house and had a baby.
Faulty door latch on driver side. Dash display indicates door ajar when it is closed. Because of this problem the dome light stays on and runs down the battery. Dangerous to drive with dome light on. This happens intermittently and it is my understanding this is a ongoing problem with this and other model Ford vehicles.
Both when the car is stationary and moving the driver's side door will be closed but the dashboard indicator will say the driver's side door is ajar despite the door being securely closed. This results in the interior overhead lights staying on for up to five minutes. Additionally, the doors will not lock despite trying to lock them using the locking button located on the door or the key fob. This began happening about a year ago in March 2016. I know many other 2011 Ford Edge drivers suffer from this same problem. This is a safety hazard because the lights remain on making it dangerous to drive at night and drains the battery leaving the driver stranded due to a dead battery. The unlocked doors could result in someone opening the door in a dangerous neighborhood and forcing the driver or passenger form the vehicle. This needs to be fixed immediately or Ford will no longer receive my business.
The rear passenger door on the driver side of my 2011 Ford Edge continuously shows on the dash that the door is ajar even when it is not. I have to stop, get out of the car, open and close it (sometimes multiple times) to get it to shut off. Despite being very annoying, it is also causing my battery to work extra hard because if you don't get the warning indicator to shut off when you park the car, the several of the car lights will stay on. It is also distracting to see this warning light on the dash while driving the car.
The door ajar light stays on even when the doors are closed. This then drains battery and leaves driver stranded. It also keeps the interior lights from shutting down because the system thinks the door is ajar. It doesn't matter if the car is running or not this happens.
The door ajar light stays on when the front passenger door is closed. It is very intermittent. The door is closed, but the door ajar warning light remains on. This is a problem when getting out of the vehicle because the dome lights and the lights under the outside of the mirrors remain on. The second issue is when you use the key fob to lock the car, it beeps twice saying the door is still open and will not lock. It is a safety issue because of the false sense that you have secured your vehicle, but cant because of a sensor problem. It come on as soon as you open the door to get in the vehicle to go somewhere. The problem is the door ajar sensor is built into the door latch itself and have read that the cost to replace with labor is just over $400 dollars. If this happens in the remaining 3 doors or the hatch that would end up costing over $2,000 dollars over the life of the vehicle. I have never paid that price for normal wear and tear on a vehicle.
The "my Ford touch" system completely shut down, starting in Nov. 2015. The system controls rear view camera and hands free cell calls among other things. The system came back on and again failed at various times through 2016. I had to remove the battery connection and reconnect, as directed in Ford website ( key reset). It again failed in Jan 2017 and finally it failed completely March 2017. I never received any communication regarding updates to the system. When you get used to the rear view camera system and hands free calls, it is a major safety concern when it is not available.
Really two complaints: 1) dash/center console lights not shutting down properly and repeatedly turn on/off when car is turned off. Results in battery draw and frequent dead batteries and 2) door latch warning light will not turn off and doors do not lock properly when being driven.
The driver's side door sensor is broken, causing the car to keep interior lights on for extended periods of time even when the car is on and driving. This causes difficulty driving in the dark as vision is hindered. The lights also stay on for 10-15 minutes after the car is turned off and locked, and will also come on at intermittent periods of time while the car is off. This problem causes the car battery to drain, resulting in a dead car battery. The car doors do not lock once the car is on and the "door ajar" light is indicated. The "door ajar" light may come on every time the car is driven in a day or may only come on periodically over several days. When on, the light indicator will stay on when the car is stationary and in motion.
Although the driver side front door is closed, "door ajar" warning is still illuminated, car does not allow locking of doors while this warning appears. Also, dome light remains on for several minutes, which is a hazard for night-time driving. This warning appears whether or not the vehicle is in motion.
The drivers side door latch does not catch. This causes the "drivers door ajar" warning. This also causes the lights to no turn off when the car is parked and turned off. This resulting the battery being drained. When battery is drained the car won't start and can leave the driver stranded.
