CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

My 2012 Ford Edge has been experiencing some electrical issues. One of them being the "door ajar" warning light. This warning light will keep my inside lights on if I am not able to clear the warning. I usually need to slam the door a couple of times and if that doesn't work then I need to restart the car and close the door and then turn the car off and usually this will clear it. I hear this is happening to quite a few Ford vehicles and think this should be looked into for a recall. If you don't realize that your cars inside lights stay on then it could drain your battery and leave you stranded.

Door ajar warning constantly on ever after opening and closing door several time. Took it to dealer and repair made, but in June 2014 the issue began again (approx 21000 miles). Returned to dealer second time and they replaced the part. Now at 32000 miles the issue continues causing safety concerns with doors not locking when driving with this issue. When manually pushing down the door locks, the doors will immediately unlock automatically. Every time I brake the interior lights turn on and the warning chime sounds. This is a major safety concern with my five year old in my car. Now the warranty is expired and it will cost nearly $500 to fix since Ford refuses to recall the defective door switches/latches.

Driver door open sensor went off causing interior lights to come on and alarm start going off. This was at 8:30 pm on a rural road. I lost my night vision and swerved off the side of the road causing my 11 year old to strike her head on the side window of the vehicle and damage to the front spoiler. This sensor has been replaced under warranty and tsb was issued by Ford 6 months ago. The police officer that came said his brother has a Ford F-150 that the same thing happened to him and he totaled his truck at night. After doing an internet search for Ford driver door open while driving and found numerous websites dedicated to the problem and immense number of accidents. How long can Ford get away with this safety issue before someone dies if they haven't already?

The door latch sensor switch was having intermittent issues and at times was showing an alarm that the door was not closed even though it was. When this happens, the door locks would de-energize and unlock even though the car was moving. This problem would also cause the exterior & interior lights to stay on when the key was turned off draining the battery. This is a safety issue and should be recalled by Ford.

Summary: Driving and message appears on dash cluster telling me that my driver door ajar and dome light comes on and doors won't lock! called dealership and no recall issued but cost of repair is a ridiculous $300-$500! apparently there are a lot of similar complaints like this all over the place and the dealership even said that its very common issue with the Edge. I feel that this is unsafe while I'm driving with my family because of the distraction of the "dinging" sound as well as the dome light while night driving! this needs to be a recall in my opinion being that this is a safety issue obviously.

Dome light stays on = creates night driving hazard. Dome light on creates safety hazard when parked in public area at night. False door ajar signal prevents the driver from recognizing a real door ajar situation = safety issue the doors will not lock-= safety issue. Issue = door ajar signal stays on when door is closed, interior light stays on, inability to lock the door while in the vehicle, and faulty door latch. This is a safety issue that needs a recall.
